Truck specific sat nav

Do truck specific sat navs really work? Will they really avoid every bridge, weight limit, width restriction and tight bend that a lorry may come across.
After loading an excavator on Exmoor yesterday I studied my 2011 truck drivers atlas for a suitable route back to Taunton, rightly or wrongly I chose to head south for Dulverton then on to Tiverton before joining the M5. What a mistake! Anyone who knows Dulverton would avoid it like a dose of the clap. After getting 2 residents to move their cars and scraping my way quite literally between a house and a wall I managed to extract my self to the shouts of why don’t you **** off!
My apologies to the locals, but I wasn’t using a sat nav as I only have a car one. So, can any one recommend a good truck sat nav that will avoid every trouser soiling situation or should I just stick to a good map book and pot luck.

Ofc they work, but you still need to use your head and not follow them blindly, I can highly recommend a snooper but plenty of others on market

Snooper here too, but always have your wits about you when using a sat nav, great built in tv as well.

Snooper is pretty good, but it will still send you down 7.5 t weight limits, I stupidly followed one last week in Tamworth (A5404 Watling street), because it said “except for loading” & found that the road I needed was off the next roundabout/ Claymore (I could have gone round the dual carriageway) Plod was sitting down the road in his little ‘Revenue Van’ facing the other way ,so I’m hoping that the ‘Nice Rozzer’ did’nt clock me.(I think his back window was closed, so maybe he was just setting up ?)

I have used snooper truck sat nav, but wasn’t that impressed. ( personal view )
I am at the moment using the new Tom Tom 5150 , and having used it since Monday
I must admit that it has done its job perfectly. ie routed me around 3 low bridges.
Unlike the car one. £ 319 too but I got it cheaper.

tomtom truck for me not cheap but never let me down in last 2 years i have used it

As ever copilot truck on iphone or android is much cheeper or have a look at pronav

Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Board Express

Im using the new snooper truckmate, works well im driving a car transporter so height is very important.

Like with all sat navs they are a guide, common sense should also be used when driving any truck :unamused:

I’ve got a tt940 running tt truck on a SD card, its bang on with bridge heights, never seen a Low bridge yet, its a bit iffey on weight limits and sometimes will try and make you do a left or right turn that’s better for a car and not a artic. But I think all hgv sat navs are not perfect, there is always some sort of flaw, whether it be low bridges, weight limits or crap routing…

Snooper s7000 for me, it has a very good tv for nights out, and you can enter up to 16 multi drops.

Garmin dezl 560lt for me, hasn’t let me down yet.
Had a ProNav PNN300 before, not bad for the money but could be slow calculating routes, the European coverage was pretty poor and I find the routing on the Garmin much more reliable.

Why don’t you just buy a decent tablet ? You can use that for everything then from your tv, to film player, to internet, to truck navigation. I don’t see the point in buying a sat nav device that may double up as a TV when for a cheaper price you can have a much better device that will do everything.

I have had a Snooper for a month, that was a nightmare. RUBBISH. Was taken back to the shop and they gave me back my money without any argument. Interesting, isn’t it?? Now, I got Tomtom 7100, much better.
