I’m only 25 so I have to live my life by technology (apparently). There seems to be so much on here about sat nags 2 posts on the main board today!! I do multi drop in a drawbar but still rely on the trusty A-Z. I was fetched up on the paper due to me dad being a trucker and I wouldn’t/ couldn’t listen to a monotonous voice telling me 3 or 4 times where to go on approach to a round a bout. Opening the flak gates cos here it comes…
Just hook the sat nav up to your computer & delete the voices, simple. It took me a while to ‘adapt’ to modern technology but now I have I’d probably get lost without my sat nav, much easier than A-Z’s.
Only 25 doesn’t count, I just turned 27 and don’t have a sat nav, and I do anything from farm work to harbour work.
But like you said, we live in the age of technology, so if you want to, use it. What all them old guys that say the didn’t have sat navs or mobiles seem to forget is, that they had it better than those before them, better maps, heated cabs and telephone boxes
Got the Snooper for when I get a run or route I’ve not done before as it’ll route me around or warn of low bridges weight limits etc. I have the truckers atlas and most the time wont have to even to take it out.
Often have the voice turned down or off though
I leant to navigate, route, plan etc on paper maps and local knowledge too and grew up in the countryside

I got a sat nav a couple of years ago.
I use it to monitor speed and if Im
going somewhere new then I get
myself in the general area then have a butchers
at what impossible route the lying ■■■■■ in the
magic box thinks Im going to fall for.
Rhythm Thief:
Paper maps? Lightweight. I use a sextant.
Brass or plastic? I prefer plastic myself, you can get a better triangulation
Traditional stuff and tech both have their merits, as with anything in life it would be dull if we all had the same preference. As for me I have the promise of a new snooper for my first working day (once passed of course) and I wouldn’t turn down anything that might make my day a bit easier especially in the early days
