aimee If you figure it out. The load is 28t ,the container is 2t, the empty truck is about 15t on 4 axles. That makes about around 45t…
I used to have a 44t truck & load clay in a 20` box in Peters Marham. I always told them at the check-in that I could only take a19t load. My mates used to take the full whack & get stuck on that bad hill on the way to the A30. The one where Bill Oddy took the farm over to film sprarrers eggs. :sunglasses:

So let me get this straight - you’ve taken 56 tonne of sand to Algeria?

So there is no truth in the saying “it’s like trying to sell sand to the Arabs”, because it clearly DOES happen. :open_mouth:

Rob K The M/E boys used to take sand to Saudi from UK.
heyup123 Is the old boy still there that loads you…? Smashing bloke. I got some snaps somewhere. He has never seen them. If you could get them to him I would appreciate it…

hey harry/ if you no what his name is may be able to tell you? mike drives the loader hes been there 40 yrs i think? then there phill hes got fairly lonh grey hair with a wee bit off a big nose but a smashing chap, then theres steve a small in height bloke but hes fairly big in belly size?lol all the guys out there are brilliant and very friendly office staff are good aswell. if you want to send a private message i will give you my number or address and will pass on pictures no probs,

That will be Phil then…

heyup123 Its a funny thing but I used to go down there regularly from Sotton & I hated it because the firm I was working for sent me out at funny times & I was never able to see my family that lives in Bude. Being a container outfit they sent the trucks down there in squadrons so it was difficult to bunk off.

yep thats him harry. i will copy the pics and print them off. will be out there tuesday so i will let him have them.

heyup123 Maybe old Phil can see them on the net. Tell him that he is a celeb now!!. You can tell him that I have given it a rest now. I was working for Maritime then & the office never gave you any notice when you were going there to load so I never had the snaps with me… Phil used to look at me & I wouldnt say anything. It was a bit embarrassing in the end. I used to loath that run. I would get within 12 miles from where my old Mum lives & then have to turn round & scarper back.. We used to call that Bill Oddy Hill. With a 20 box stuck in the middle of the chassis if you stopped you had to reverse down again because there was no grip on the drive axle. The law around there was, empty always gave way to loaded…& not many loads go to the quarry…

Good pics

Rob K its not sand as such its aby product of the steel/ foundry furnesses but they used to use sand but every body got cillycosis (yes i know its the wrong spelling) but near enough. but people still call it sand blasting we will have a total of near 2000 tonne of it by the end of the job which entails repairing live gas tanks (you can see one in the pics) then a local company blast and paints them. there is alot of holes in them no maintence for 30 years so we repair the leaks you don,t make misstakes

cillicosis .

harry:
