Made by fiat I noticed have fiat ever made trucks in the past?
We can thank it anyway for driverless mirrors and TV rearview mirrors.
Also he was right when he said in the future a driver will finish his shift and another driver will take over as companyâs donât wonât want trucks parked up not moving and not earning .
if it works hereâs topgear from 2002 with a car they reckon would be the future of motoring
Did I see this car in total recall
My friend, who unlike me, is very techie, and he is dead against the current EV revolution and when I ask in my ignorance (because alot of people are telling me otherwise) what is the future then, his answer is hydrogen.
I have no idea and for the moment will stick with my 2 diesels.
And I agree with your âtechie friendâ. Hydrogen is the way to go.
I donât know how many electric cars and vans there are in Dewsbury. I only know of 3 (yes three) public electric vehicle charging points (hospital car park,Iâve NEVER seen one vacant)
Picture the scene, you own an electric vehicle and you (and wifey) want to set off on a touring holiday , UK and Europe. Itâs just not going to work.
Fiat has had a long history of building commercial vehicles, dating back to the early 1900s; https://historicvehicles.com.au/historic-truck-brands/fiat/
Interesting clip, itâs designed by Colani, the ones based on a Mercedes chassis are probably his most âfamousâ creations; Category:Colani Truck - Wikimedia Commons
Who knows what the future holds? Surely the âstrongâ leaders in Bruxelles will know..?! EVâs (although I hate them) do have a place in urban areas I reckon, and electric public transport makes sense as well. Using electric vehicles for urban multi-drop work isnât as daft either, but thatâs where it stops.
For everything else a combination of using the old-fashioned combustion engine and hydrogen technology would probably be the way forward?
The infrastructure is there now with the network of filling stations (petrol/diesel) that we already have. Put a storage tank in, a new pump, and weâre up and running.
Same refuelling times as our cars now.
I can see the point of EVâs for strictly urban use (Mrs GOM popping down to Asda) but thatâs a small percentage of overall car use.
Allegedly Amazon with their fleet of EV Transits are having problems (vehicles running out of charge before the days work is completed)
I hope it had A/C in that greenhouse cab, cute that they thought diesel would still be a thing in the future.
Interesting read that thanks..never knew fiat eventually became iveco via a merger
God remember the dublot van my mate had one used it for his window cleaning rounds back in the late 80s
No worries, I actually thought it was common knowledge, but then again, I am bit of a automotive geekđŹ
Most deffo faster with filling up indeed!
I read an article in a newspaper I think it was, about a couple that went on holiday to the Balkan in a EV, gist of the story was that they had some bum clenching moments trying to find a charging point. And if they finally found one, the next question would be if it actually worked.
I think the problem for hydrogen now is still the storage capacity and the price, as itâs still rather expensive.
Me too, maybe itâs an age thing.
@grumpy_old_man I put that on another, non transport forum, and the general view was hydrogen may be applicable for heavy vehicles (I think some filling points are being set up along the M4 corridor) but not for cars, but I am no expert.
It feels like ev charging locations are expanding quite a bit at least round M4 M3 areas. I used the new âSuperhubâ near Winchester for the first time a week ago.
Going along the A4 to Hogarth roundabout the westbound BP before the brewery has converted to a ev charging station.
There is a wide range of providers but that doesnât seem to have brought competition and prices down that I can see.
I actually remember that programme it came out at the time when I was a young lad keen as mustard to become a trucker with lots of interest in trucksâŚ(bad move )
He got 2 things rightâŚ
Diesel engines (proven) for efficiency and reliability.
And mirror cams being ââMisplaced Ingenuityââ...o yeah and what is essentially cruise control.
In the days when guys were driving the likes of âBâ Series ERFâs, they must have looked like something out of Star Trek.
YepâŚI used to drive oneâŚone similar to pic)
Is the craze of William âwoollardingâ still a thing, whereas you put your feet up on a vehicle to mimic him?
Looks like an artic EV charging station in a flood.
