Truck Insurance

Hi all
Another daft question?! im looking for insurance for my motor, I know I need GIT but is there a comparsion site for it or a list of decent truck insurance companies?
I believe a unit only subbing with a driver and GIT would be about £3500 P.A . ■■

Use a decent insurance broker to get you a good deal. I’ve used c&c insurance in Stockport for about 20 odd years phone them on 0161 4064800

That’s about what I pay all in for unit only subbing, I’m insured with Towergate, I get quotes every year at renewal time and nobody ever matches it, some of the quotes are so expensive that you can tell that the person on the other end of the phone is embarrassed to say it. I always think “Why waste my time and yours phoning me then?”. :stuck_out_tongue:

To be honest that’s about what I pay for it all,

I used to use them years ago, dealt with a fella called Paul Halfpenny, good switched on guy and a good Co imo. Never had any hassles over any claims.

Like Harry, I’m with Towergate, happened by accident as my original broker was bought out by them. Always thought their service is crap though and might give somewhere else a whirl if they can match the quote next time.

I am an insurance broker, I sold my brokerage to Towergate in 2006, they are a complete crap firm. They have been buying up smaller brokers for a few years now. They have some good staff who were adopted when their firms were bought out, but the staff morale is bad, and the service is dreadful, although they have some good products, and some reasonable premiums.

I was contracted to them for a year and a half on a consultancy basis, but had to jack as I could not stand their attitude. They nearly went ■■■■ up last year and were rescued at the eleventh hour, but shut a lot of offices and made a load of redundancies.

I started up again 2007, but only do 3days a week and drive on the other days, hence part time driver, part time broker.

This is not an advert for business BTW, we have plenty, but always Willing to help out fellow drivers. We can do truck insurance, but do not compete with the specialists.

ive contacted few so far, towergate never replied to my request via their website, I rang C and C brokers for a quote told me they will call back and have not and I spoke to ISIS insurance and they wont quote me until nearer the time ( Launch date 1 Sept) but I managed to get a rough quote of £3-4 Grand per year. so I will have to wait some time.

same companies might do GIT insurance for trucks

Ref to my earlier posts, I asked a few companies for a quote and most could only give a rough estimate of £3-4K however I just received this from a insurance broker, comments please as I think its too high ( the reason is lack of no claims bonus)

As discussed I am pleased to confirm the following details :-

Commercial Vehicle

Volvo FH4, Comprehensive Insurance and you only to drive

Policy Excess - £500 for each and every claim

Goods in Transit

Limit of Liability –RHA conditions of carriage £6,500 per tonne

The full annual premium is £7,716.33 which can be in one go or over 10 monthly instalments (£1,929.09 deposit and then 10 equal payments of £619.23 which includes a 7% interest charge and a £25 set up fee).

That’s about 2k over what I paid for my first truck, that was with towergate, my next 2 were taken out with cornish insurance, they were cheaper. It might be because you haven’t got a specific truck yet, if have things moved on since your original post? If you don’t have a specific truck yet, find one for sale that is the same as the one you’ll buy (year, engine, rating etc) and get a quote based on that registration, you can always requote later. I think the broker would choose a high quote for a vague enquiry, in case you take him up on it later!

Hubman, I used Isis as they allowed me to self cert I had claim free driving experience. It was a matter of a declaration. I couldn’t get one from the firm I was driving for as they got shirty that I wanted to go it alone. I was gettin a few quotes of motor only insurance around £4700. Did manage to get quite a few quotes of £2500 ish if I could produce the letter of confirmation of no accidents. Isis ( unfortunate choice of company branding) were the only ones I could self cert with. In the end I think it was£2400. I think git and PI were about £500 each, maybe a smidge higher for git.
Hope this helps you pal

Morning. I have been given the details of the truck, 14 plate volvo fh4 520 6x2, I tired Isis and towergate but they won’t quote this early ( launching in Sept) this quote is from C & C insurance. I told him it’s too high…

They won`t quote any earlier than 30 days prior, something to do with quotes only being valid for 30 days

Im with ISIS, and they are good, but, Im looking around this time around, just in case they try it on, as Ive had a few years of very good premiums and no claims, but I just dont trust insurance companies :open_mouth:

This lad rang me back same day after I went through their website, very helpful and knowledgeable…

He put a few details through his computer to get me a few pointers as to where I could be quote wise in the next few months, I was impressed with his eagerness to get me onside

I will definitely be back in touch with him nearer the time…

So why tell them it’s sept 1st? If they won’t qoute you, and all your wanting to do is get a figure to indicate who’s gonna be best for you then don’t say sept 1st. Have you got an ops license yet?

We are submitting the O Licence at the end of March, im just getting as much info as poss with ref to costings, ive got the truck, parking and R & M package sorted,
