Anyone know what rough cost of hiring a 7.5 ton box sleeper for five weeks and is a o licence required ?
They will probably hire you a 7.5t truck without O licence and make you sign a non commercial use disclaimer.
As for costs, it will be cheaper than daily hire but not cheap in the grand scheme of things. Best thing to do is ask local truck rental site
If you bought a decent example for the right money off ebay and then re-sold it after 5 weeks it would be way less than what you’d pay in rental - potentially, best case scenario, nothing but a bit of road tax.
ow account driver
thats what i would prefer to do but am not sure about the o licence and how it will work
basically doing a event for five weeks in the same location and bringing a mates stuff to it which is sound equipment
i have seen advertised where u can rent space on a o licence but how do vosa look upon this
does anyone know can you actually go see vosa and ask all these questions or is it all done over the phone
also would be worried about break down can you get like something similar to AA cover for trucks and is it of any use its only a 7.5 ton i need and also insurance for the equipment thats on board

If you were to require an O licence you certainly couldn’t use someone elses.

Put it this way, what would be more convenient for visits, Wandsworth or Pentonville?
And the O licence holder will become an ex O licence holder
if that is the case why or how are these getting away with advertising ?
advertising dont come cheap

If that is actually what they are advertising then they won’t be advertising for very long as VOSA will have their licence off them.

Where have you seen these adverts? Are you sure it is for a place on somebody else’s operator’s licence (which is illegal) rather than being for rented parking at somebody else’s operating centre (which is legal)?
Harry maybe i misread it and the add was what you say just for parking
it was on the dublin holyhead ferry i read it on the paper thats allways loads of them left in the drivers lounge i in spain at the moment but will try to find out whats the name of the paper they may be a online version.
Was it advertising to be “transport manager” for people … in that they would be the nominated CPC holder ?
rustler maybe thats what it was if it was if you had restricted licence you wouldnt need a cpc holder i presume
am i right on this ?
Salford Van hire rent 7.5t box vans for around £350 a week or £450 for an 18t though it doesnt specifiy if they have sleepers or not

Up until 18 months ago they used to advertise on here, they probably still are in Commercial Motor
I would hire a haulier to do it, maybe with a swapbody
Standard international licence
A standard international licence allows you to carry your own goods, and goods for other people for hire or reward, both in Great Britain and on international journeys. Operators who are issued with standard international licences will also receive Community Licences. These are required for all hire or reward operations in, or through EU countries and are documents required to be carried on the vehicle at such times. (Further information about Community Licences is provided below).
Standard national licence
A standard national licence allows you to carry your own goods on your own account, or other people’s goods for hire or reward, in Great Britain and to carry your own goods on your own account abroad. This will allow you to haul loaded trailers to or from ports within Great Britain as long as your vehicle does not actually leave Great Britain.
To get a standard licence, you and your transport manager must be of good repute and satisfy the requirement of professional competence.
Restricted licence
A restricted licence only allows you to carry your own goods on your own account within Great Britain and the EU. You do not have to satisfy the requirement of professional competence to get a restricted licence and the rates of financial standing may be less. However, you should obey the same rules as for a standard licence.
To be honest I would just do it as it sounds like it’s blaggable as private use if you were pulled - which the odds would be fairly low in a self-drive hire van if you stayed well clear of checkpoints and usual haunts.
At the end of the day it’s a technicality, although I’m not doubting they might throw the book at you, you’re driving a well-maintained road legal vehicle you’re qualified and insured to drive. I can’t see how overloading a 3.5t luton, due to inflexible operators licensing regulations, is a step forward for road safety.
I would maybe think twice if you were thinking of applying for an o-licence, at some point, or have held one in the past.
