Would`nt it be good if large firms could supply a PortaKabin type of accomodation for out of base drivers,we do not need the Ritz, just a spare bunk to get some rest rather than be driving the car back and forth.

You cannot be serious. Can you imagine the amount of complaining that would produce?
You have a point,it would be like a Kindergarden of who nabs the best bunk without the stains on it.

if they employed 50 people, they would only need 25 beds.
one out, one in.
on the other hand, why don’t they just sleep in the cab?
If no cabs are available Phil, the cost of fuel, may mean sleeping in the car.

What a brilliant idea! They could charge rent!
And you could buy food and stuff from the company store!
Fan-bloody-tastic! Or maybe, just maybe, we could fight for reasonable shift lengths. Nah… that’d never do.

That’s just for starters. I was going to say moaning but thought the better of it…
I once worked for a firm that had a house near Calais (if I remember correctly) for this purpose. I never saw the inside of it and never wanted to, I based my judgement on the state of the cab interiors of the other drivers. One I was invited into had an electric oven type thing atop the dash (it was an old DAF 95) and the roof was thick with grease… Another geezer told me how he’d been pulling himself silly all morning, then offered me a cup of tea…
That’s a bloke by himself, imagine nine or ten.
How do you get rid of stale sweat odours in the cabs i have been in,some are minging, not fit for a dog.
Happydaze, are sure your mate did not drop one in your tea.

That’s what I was afraid of, so made my excuses and left!
The boss at a burger joint would place body fluids and parts in the food and drink of rude customers, toe nails, pubic hair and so,use the imagination.

That’s taking “I’m lovin’ it” a bit too far. It’s not meant to be a physical love!
i am led to believe the Stobbies used to want everyone to live

Switchlogic:

Yo! Switchlogic read his later post.

NOT MOANING mate? ^^^^^^^^^^Read the above.
He includes himself in those who are not happy with the situation.
Are you both the same person■■?
Well not having a time machine I can’t read later posts before I post my own comment, sorry. To me He still just seems to be making general comments rather than moaning. Toby’s posts are often bonkers but he’s not a big moaner. And why exactly do you think we’re the same person?

It’s been done before When I was on for Duke’s in the 90’s they had 2 portacabins in the Crick depot ‘The Bunkhouse’ they called it. Used the facilities once and refused to sleep in it after that it was ■■■■■■■ disgusting and if I was unable to sleep in my own motor I used to use one of the sleeper cab rigids that weren’t used for nights out.

‘…if … they ask me to come back in 9hrs, they get told I’ll see them in 11…’
What with a commute, I tell them that I feel dangerous on anything less: That sharpens their focus - and what with dozens of runs available & agency to support them, they can and will accommodate it but wont bother unless the driver’s resistance is indicated
Did you take the job on the understanding they would use the lorry on nights? If so, the commute is your problem, anyway, very unlikely to have just 9 off. How often do nights do bang on 9hrs and days bang on 15. If they have started using your truck on nights after you started, then just tell them you will do 13 on 11 off and that’s it. They are you’re hours, not theirs. I know they can legally plan you a 15, but it’s your discretion to do it or not
