Was reading an article by a former central motorway police officers, what a load of utter drivel and incorrect facts!!!
Would of thought a mag directed at drivers would of checked facts before publishing it.
One of the many reasons the pile of T&D mags on the news stands doesn’t seem to diminish during the month,feel sorry for the wasted trees.

I’ve bought that mag since it started in the 80s (on the loft somewhere) stopped buying it about a year ago, got too expensive and maybe not as good imo.
I buy it more than I used to, probably 4 times a year. It depends on content. I look though in the shops, see if there’s anything tipper related and then decide. I bought Trucking this month instead, but Truck is still greatly missed.
For classics, Classic Truck is the best.
Not bought it in ages how many times can you read about v8 scanias and some ■■■■ nugget who spends hus whole life polishing the thing

The article will cause allot of confusion for new drivers and arguments amongst time hardened… Written by an ex traffic copper, published in a national magazine… Shameful

Anyone got a link to the relevant article? (Too tight to pay for something I’d not read )
Thanks Widget. Not sure if it’s satisfying or worrying that those in authority have no idea at all.
Edit to add; is it really rocket science for these people to work out that if a vehicle is in motion it is driving, if it is stationary it’s err not driving?

Well what a load of ■■■■■■■■ the regulations state driving time not time sat behind the wheel. Have found that when being stopped by the police their knowledge of the rules is someway behind that of a Vosa man. Before on the spot fines came in got taken to court by the police for taco offences 3 charges defended myself no legal advice and on 2 out of the 3 charges was found not guilty, the one I was fond guilty was black and white so no point arguing it but the other were down to the copper not understanding the rules around boat movements expensive day for Lancaster Police as my small fine didn’t even begin to cover the costs

+1
Given up looking at all truck magazines, every photo shoot shows every light on in the day time, what is the point of that, yeh, your lights are working , so what .
Then the interview with the driver , who all of a sudden becomes a mechanical expert, quoting drivel and non sense about the gear box and engine performance .
" The boss is getting 12 new Megasupertrotter XXXLL 750 bhp doopers, but I much prefer my old Eaton Twim Splitter on day runs to Dubai and back in a day cab sleeping on plywood "

Also one of the reasons that I knocked it on the head.
Reading what brand of ■■■■ tyre blacking these guys use does nothing for me either.
I would rather read volumes 1 to 5 of drivers hours regs.
Well reading what was posted I think the copper has very little understanding how a digital tachograph works.
stopped buying it period,got an e mail from them saying about my subscription,sent a reply saying not interested in your magazine anymore,articles are quite boring now,too many adverts,theres even been articles about cars and vans in it,supposed to be a trucking mag
You do all know that it’s in the APRIL edition, don’t you? May be a connection there…

EU regs, as far as I can see, do not stipulate precisely what defines ‘driving’.
The UK Road Traffic Act does. Could be an interesting area for the courts to get excitable about…
Poor editing to blame there.

But they do
eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/ … 61&from=EN
Eu 561/2006 art 4 J and k
(j) ‘driving time’ means the duration of driving activity recorded:
automatically or semi-automatically by the recording equipment as defined in Annex I and Annex IB of Regulation (EEC) No 3821/85,
manually as required by Article 16(2) of Regulation (EEC) No 3821/85;
(k) ‘daily driving time’ means the total accumulated driving time between the end of one daily rest period and the beginning of the following daily rest period or between a daily rest period and a weekly rest period;
So if, at a set of traffic lights, your digital tacho switches from driving to work, it means you are not driving anymore.
With the 30 second rule, your tacho will count every minute towards the activity you have been doing the longest during that minute. If that means you are stationary in a traffic jam, you are at work and not driving, altough it is “time spent behind the wheel in control of the propulsion and steering”
“being behind the wheel” is nowhere defined in eu rules, driving time is.

This is the point I made about the courts possibly getting excitable over it…
I guess if a prosecution is brought about for a breach to the EU drivers hours regs, the authorities should apply those regs and definitions. Although again, the EU regs quoted do not actually define ‘driving’ quite as clearly as the UK Road Traffic Act.
Hypothetically, I’m guessing if you were stuck in a Jam for a protracted period of time which essentially took you into a rest period, you’d not be able to then drive for the same amount of time which you were in the jam for, without taking a break at the earliest safe opportunity?
