When your stranded on the side of the M1 in poor visibility running your battery flat really ought to be the least of your concerns.
Back in the "old days " I used to carry a couple of ever ready bike lamps, mainly for night time parking but on occasions when the pride of the fleet had died on the road some where and dark and a long way from a phonebox !
Over the years and up until march when my job finished I still carried a pair of lamps , up grading to LEDs in recent years.
Old ■■■■ that I am !!
I still carry a paraffin lamp for that very purpose. I nicked it from a set of road works a few years back.
All well and good until some thieving git pinches it.
Going into the packet for a single baby wipe after a mucky job, and pulling out a handful of 5 cos can’t get a hold of just the one… whilst at same time ripping the opening meaning said baby wipes are going to dry out in 3 days.

Perhaps they have suffered a total electrical failure , probably an Iveco.
Or an Alfa
I think the law of average would suggest it can’t be the case for everyone I see. Maybe because it’s a pet hate of mine I look out for it more. Maybe its like the old hi Vis thing- if it becomes the norm you become more invisible?
Not indicating on roundabouts do these nuggets think we should know we’re there going normally BMW must have broken indicators also drivers using gloves covered in grease of the suzi and wearing shorts in the depths of winter
The tachograph unit refusing to tell you how much break you’ve done until you’ve had your key in the ignition for a full minute. How [zb] hard is it to calculate the current time minus the time when you stabbed the rest button and show it instantly? On the same theme, the ‘overspeed’ alert : one flash of the display is enough. You do not need to repeatedly flash at me for the next 2 minutes. Let me assure you Mr. Tachograph that 70 down Windy Hill is absolutely fine .

Ok mebbys ridiculous if you’re getting out tipping and loading every 5 mins, but a long Euro trip where all you’re doing is driving,.what’s the problem, shorts and t.shirt, heater on, jobs a good un
Same when I’m sat in the house at weekends, shorts all year round…anyhoo it gives the wife a thrill.

Non tachograph regulated vehicles taking up the last spot at a hgv parking area
Non abnormal loads taking up abnormal load bays at service area
Wagons parked in coach bays when theirs plenty of space in the main parking, just lazy
Wagons parked parallel to the parking bays, I.E not parked in bays despite plenty of choice, because their too lazy, too inadequate at reversing, or both - which can then make my job pulling out of the bay harder than needed because youve took a couple meters of wiggle room away from me.
Yes, I have just pulled up at Hartshead services for a 30

Sorry bud but when running with an abnormal load then it’s coach bay for me. The days of struggling to get out of regular parking bay because Wincstobartturners have parked in the abnormal bays are long gone.

I used to do that at Gloucester services the first few times I stopped there because I was so bad at reversing. Although I only took 30 min breaks and was prepared to move off if needed. Nowadays I’m a little more confident and use the regular bays like a big boy Although to be fair to myself the first time I parked there I honestly thought this was a fridge parking, the writing was barely visible, then I realized it was for oversized.
^^^^ Jeez mate, have some confidence in yourself. I doubt that anywhere in the country are there more user friendly lorry bays than Gloucester services. Regardless of whether you’re driving RHD or LHD.
But as you say you’re more confident now, so alls good

Literally the next services (NB) at the junction for M50 (j8). I don’t remember the name. Just straight drive-in bays. Are they still closed at Gloucester (main building)?

That’ll be Strensham n/b, light years better than the one on the s/b side. Not been in Gloucester for over three months tbh so can’t comment on the current plague parking unfortunately.

Are you saying all the facilities at Gloucester MSA are shut?
Surely it should be free overnight parking if so.
I don’t know at present. My last visit there was 2-3 months ago. The main building(s) were shut for ‘renovation’ but there was nothing going on inside, no cars or vans parked outside, car park completely empty - the whole place looked like they stopped the renovation in the middle and everyone just left in a hurry from what I could see through the windows. Only the filling station was open. Part of the truck parking was fenced off at the rear, I think they’ll be changing the light poles or reinforcing them No idea about paid parking, didn’t notice any fees/charges but I only used to park for 45 min to an hour anyway.
Threads about drivers wearing hi viz in the cab. Bore off FFS.
When companies have a dedicated lane for their own vehicles on the entrance to the yard which sub contractors constantly block off. we can get in without dealing with security but subbies have a separate lane and must stop. They constantly pull up next to each other though and block the entrance off. Which is pointless as they’ll only see them one at a time.
