Why ? do you people think a driver cant be successful on agency work ? I work 3 month on and 3 month off , and I do very well .as I said I’m an exception but I do know a few drivers who are ok on agency jobs.

And I know many who get ■■■■ upon regularly! You seem to be in a fortunate position whereby you only need 6 months work and then retreat to your lower cost of living Thai paradise? I’m pleased for you but the vast majority are not in your shoes so we’re not really comparing like with like here.

If you want a full time job, then agency probably isn’t for you. It’s time consuming and very expensive to hold down full time hours at multiple locations week after week.

PART time hours however work out much better, because less trips to work, more takehome pay (earnings at lower threshold for tax) and of course what should be a higher hourly rate than the full timer gets mean that with the “right” agency work, it can be quite good for fitting in around your life, instead of trying to fit your life around a 55hr pw job when other industries are still working 35-40 for the same money.

Another way of putting it is:-

“What’s better? - 50 hours for £500 gross, takehome £350 OR 25 hours £250 gross takehome £250…”

It should be a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many can’t grasp the concept of “cheap” money and “expensive” money. :frowning:
That second lot of 25 hours is paid an effective 40% lower than the first 25 hours. It doesn’t matter what the actual hourly rate is (I used £10ph for just an example here) because the differential percentage is the same. Firms that try and get you to “bump up your takehome pay with tax fiddles” are on a hiding to nothing at the end of the day, because what’s needed in the industry is just higher headline houly rates across the board without the need for all the paperwork fiddles and in-work benefits to “make up for the employer being a skinflint”.
