TRG Logistics...'Warehouse to wheels'

Hello folks,

Just posting this if anyone who’ve been to Newark truckfest this weekend and maybe heard about it but I’ve been told from a guy from the above agency that they will be taking people on to train them up to become drivers in return for them signing a 12 month contract so they have to work for the agency for 12 months and cannot work for anybody else.

Now, obviously I asked many many questions to try fish as much information as I could and well this was the follow up of some of the said questions. But imo it just sounds a little too good to be true other than it being a good opportunity for someone

I asked about the work, and what happens when there isn’t any work because of course they’re an agency and chances are the work won’t be there at quiet times they told me that you are contracted to be paid 40 hours a week so if you don’t work them you will still be paid those 40 hours.

Asking about the pay they said you get paid £8.50 for the first 8 hours then it goes up after that. You also get the O/time rate and a sat/sun/bank holiday rate also.

The work itself is varied and apparently they have clients all over the shop including one of the supermarket chains whom you will be trained to do the work and not just be thrown a set of keys and be told to get on with it.

When asked if you were happen to leave before the contract ended he told me that if you leave to expect a big bill on your desk…how big though he didn’t say…i assume it would be the cost of training and whatever else…

Now imo it just sounds a little too good to be true, but on the other hand it could be completely true what they were saying. But imo I can see it being something where they can get out of paying you if work isn’t on etc. Needless to say they are going to contact me in the next week or two to arrange a meeting to get to know more about it and read over a few things but of course to be wary about things but it’s a case of whether it would be worth putting my own job in for it…as they told me you can still work your own job but once you’ve gained your Cat C that you would be expected to put your notice in.

Just want to know everyones thoughts? As of course I’m young and dying to get behind the wheel but I don’t want to be doing anything drastic and potentially very stupid.

Cheers

Sounds like bull ■■■ to me.theres more drivers than jobs and they wanna pay for your training, medical, cpc and possiable resit.

Presuming you’re still on for RB in the traffic office, I wouldn’t chuck that in. Personally if in your situation I’d put myself through it and then see if you can get eased into driving.

Well they’re obviously working on the soon to be ‘shortage’ of drivers after the DCPC comes into play next year after so many drivers claim to not be going through it. We’ll see though…

Indeed I am, and that’s what I was originally going to do…apart from the last part though but I have my reasons for that…was just when I spoke to the people at the TRG stand yesterday I won’t lie about not being interested in getting to know more about it…but also they’re an agency who shouldn’t be trusted so I thought I would get some opinions about it on here.

I don’t see me packing my job in for it though, but it is nice to know the facts before doing anything out of sorts

Most things that sound too good to be true usually are. However if they have a contract and you sign it they have to abide by it. Or risk being sued etc. Depends what the contract actually says I guess

I had this with my cat D licence. Bus company paid me for 4 weeks whilst training and if I left before 18 months you had to pay training back (cost was advised in advance on a sliding scale based on length of service)
With regard the guaranteed 40 hours pay, you may do 30 one week and get paid 40 but work 50 the next and still only get 40.
As to why they’re doing it? They could be getting tax relief/rebate or government grants as they’re providing you a vocation.
Sometimes things are too good to be true and sometimes you might just catch a break.

Johnny there will be no shortage of drivers.for a couple of reassons.1- people may say they wont do the cpc but they will because they like to show off and want to keep working.2- there is no shortage of cheap foreign drivers. If you fancy trg or that crap college course who claims to get you to america so be but you better get used to hearing verbal ■■■ if you wanna be a driver.you strike me as a young guy who knows best and runs head first into everything, kinda like a fat kid that sees cake

Good. You couldn’t be anymore wrong though

But people will think what they like. I asked for information and opinions. Never said I was leaving my job, it may have been implied a little bit but nothing would be done without full thought and weighing up the pros & cons of what could potentially go wrong…but never mind
