Treated worse than dogs

Has it anybody tought it a bit odd that if you were to leave a dog in a car on a hot day in a car park someone would probably smash a window to let the poor dog out and/or you’d be arrested and rightly so. But as I write this I’m sitting in my truck with the sun baking me through the windscreen whilst sitting in a rdc for the last 90 mins with no keys for air con along with countless other drivers in the same predicament. The world is a ■■■■■■ up place.

At least you’re in the cab and not a waiting room

Don’t take this the wrong way but - why don’t all you drivers that have to put up with this ■■■■ join the Union that represent the Tanker Drivers. Maybe then something will be done to enhance and humanise your jobs?

Why do you all put up with this ■■■■?

So like a dog your unable to get out the lorry? Are you hoping a concerned passer by smashes your window and drags you out. It’s not that hot today. Good grief

After this round of industrial action if there is any, the oil companies (pushed by gvt) will sort of ease out employed drivers in favour of owner drivers or self employed drivers. The unions no longer have any grunt, the only one is the one that represents the tube drivers in London.

Because we have done for years and it is now the norm!

Here’s a Luke’s Top Tip, on hot days open the windows before you hand your keys in.

Or lie on top of the trailer to top up your tan - they don’t tell you not to do that, it is after all staying with your vehicle

I was gonna say exactly the same, its not hard opening the door and using the legs god gave you to (heaven forbid) stand up,or walk about for a while!! :unamused: …the topics on this site are just getting more ridiculous by the day and more and more drivers are turning into complete ■■■■■’s!!!

What about the time before air con was invented  or for those that dont have it at all still

Windows do go up / down always have done :unamused:

But you could use shanks’s pony :sunglasses:

Another point is if you had your keys I assume you’d be sat there with the engine running with the aircon on, in what? 20c? Your boss must be a rich man with fuel costing what it does.

Great chance for some fresh air driver … You could clean your truck or give it a good check over.

I’ve seen drivers like this, moaning about being stuck in RDC’s nothing to do, etc, etc.

Then 50 miles down the road, “Oh I havent a clue what that noise is?” “You’ve run a wheel loose driver!!”

This^, many times this^.

That’s right it’s all the drivers fault, attitudes like that is why we are treated like ■■■■.
Have left the windows down but there is 2 trucks either side of me and not a hope of any fresh air being circulated besides the sun is shining straight through the windscreen. Also have gotten out of the lorry a few times but I’m here 2 and half hours now and I’m hardly going to stand like a spare prick beside my lorry for that long. As for the air con for a start I wasn’t planning to leave the engine running for very long just now and again to cool things down a bit. Is it such a big ask that if these RDCs are going to keep you for as long as they want that they provide the very basic facilities? They take our keys because it’s far easier and cheaper to hassle the driver than put in wheel locks.

Are you for real■■? You’ve seen drivers not cleaning their lorries and checking wheel nuts every chance they get and their wheels fell off■■? WTF are you on? I’m driving 15 years and haven’t lost a wheel yet but thanks for the advice ■■■■■■■■■ For the record lorry clean and all wheels on nice and tight.

But it is invented, why don’t you go onto a ward in a hospital and ask the people what they’d have done before medicine was invented. Bet your a real hero that doesn’t need air con or heat or anything post 1970. Wish I was hard like you. BTW windows don’t go up or down without keys but that’s for the input really useful.

i think the point is being missed totally here why should rdc’s take keys off you most drivers have phone laptop sat nav etc so you either lock the cab and sit a [zb] ‘waiting room for hours on end’ or leave your truck open sweating (yes you can open the door but i have been in the back garden today and there isnt much breeze about!) as you can see above a few drivers would try to change it but most just bite the bullet and get on with it! and if you want to stand next to your vehicle or walk around the yard you need you hi viz on and they will make you so much cooler wont they! as for checking wheel nuts isnt that what a toffee hammer and wheel nut markers are for?? this is whats wrong with hgv driving too many older drivers who have been treated worse than dogs for too long just accepting it hence not many younger drivers coming through!

Well I guess the simple answer to this problem is if you don’t like the heat, get out of the truck!

This thread is a classic truck drivers ‘whinge n’ whine" jobby. Some hate the conditions they work in and others think that’s the way it is, so get on with it.

It’s not older drivers that have simply accepted bad conditions, it’s a market forces fact of life. If you don’t like sitting in a truck, sweating because RDC’s have for whatever reason decided to take your truck keys, you’ve basically got three choices. In the foreseeable future, there will always be someone who’s happy to do your job if you don’t like doing it!

In the meantime here are your options:

  1. Accept the status quo. (And by definition continue to complain about it…)

  2. Find another job. (And find something else that doesn’t suit your perception of self.)

  3. Take your employer/RDC owner to court and attempt to change your working conditions. (Good luck with that…)

In hindsight, my post above sounds very critical of sammy for posting his thoughts here. It’s not meant to be mate, and I’m sure those options have gone through your mind as well…

Although I’m not sure your position compares with dogs in cars!
