Tread Depth Markers?

Running a mixture of Firestone FD622, Hankook AH31/AH31+ and Continental HS3 so they’re all that little bit special.

What confuses me at the moment is the differences between depth markers in the tread. The Hankook on the NSF seems to have two, although that is currently the newest tyre.

Picture of a Firestone FD622 which is on the drive axle, to me looks like it’s fast approaching a depth marker, but past that there is still 6-7mm of tread.

Should I be getting on to Bush for some replacements?

I think they’re for a recut guide , so when tyre gets to that make they can be recut

I suspect those are tie-bars rather than tread wear indicators. Their purpose is to brace/stabilise the tread blocks.

The Firestone FD622 carries the winter tyre classification, you should see the “3 peaks & snowflake” logo on the side. I would say the 6-7mm depth marker is the tread limit at which according to the manufacturer the tyre ceases to be suitable for winter conditions. Thats how it worked on the winter tyres we have had.

FD 622 on page 7 of this :- tbr.firestone.eu/downloads/FS_TB … nglish.pdf

This from the Continental site :- “Several winter tyre models are equipped with winter tyre wear indicators. If they are flush with the level of the tread, the tyre is no longer suitable for winter driving conditions. In some locations, they may also no longer legally qualify as winter tyres.”

In the sunny and warm UK :unamused: you can carry on using them to the legal limit.

Luxury tyres. 12 Goldcoins on a fuel tanker ))))). Winter and summer tread markers is what you are asking about for European winters uk run them nearly bald.
