Transport Planner. Requesting more work than capable?

Work out how long it will take you to get back to the yard, add on Friday traffic delays 2 hours, and time to empty the lorry etc. When the reload still ain’t happening when you are close to the sum of the above then ring your office and tell them your coming home empty. The office monkeys only see you as money maker, they don’t care if you stay out Friday night into Saturday, stand your ground and tell them your off home, they will still want you back in the lorry Monday morning. They try you and see how weak you are, don’t be afraid to tell them to f off.

Have you ever wondered Juddian why tf you, me or anybody else has to say this type of stuff to other drivers? :unamused:

What is wrong with people today, is it a generational thing or what, why can they not suss out all this type of stuff in this crap job today themselves.

Does their own brain not tell them ‘‘Hang on a minute, I’m getting the ■■■■ ripped out of me here, used and abused, it’s time I kicked off about it’’

At what point does these thoughts of self protection and preservation kick in with these guys exactly, or are they just programmed to just take any old crap without question.

Ok, I’m not necessarily referring to the o/p here, as at least he’s had the sense to see it and ask advice…but ffs man, do you not see what I’m getting at… :unamused:

It’s a mentality thing mate i’m sure, we both still work with them, if you walk through the gate the same time as them their half wrecked lorry is out the gate in half the time it takes me (oil’s never been checked, various bulbs out but everythings minging so you can barely tell, and for all they know the tyre fitter could still be under the trailer changing a soddin wheel :unamused: when they pulled out), see them on the road i’ve had them come past me as i’m slowing up for roundabouts on the retarder, bulging eyed flat out right up till the last second then hard braking and off they go again, back on the pumps same journey a 3mpg difference often enough, they gained only minutes for being flat out every second.

Never stop for a ■■■■? no need to they ain’t had a cup o’ tea for 8 hours cos not a bloody second to spare.
They’re frantic, got themselves into a mind frame of rushing round like their arse is alight, never make my age, let alone yours :smiling_imp:

Maybe you’re a little too efficient and the planner realises that, so, typical of the breed, can’t help themselves pushing that bit more on top.

Whilst you continue to fly around getting the job done they’ll keep doing this, the answer is to stop flying around, set a pace that is reasonable and repeatable, what don’t get delivered gets taken back, oh and if you’re using POA bloody well stop doing so, your real hours will soon mount up so they’ll be forced to cut your hours back.
Don’t fall for any of this we’ll collect you ■■■■■■■■, not only is it bent running but you just know you won’t be paid for the extra hours cos ‘we can’t be seen to run bent’, stop deliveries when there’s ample time to get back…not scraping through the gate at 14 hrs 59mins pulling the card out just inside the gate.

If you carry on like this it will knock your health cos you must be stressed to buggery, and sooner or later you’ll drop a big bollock and have an accident, as well as your home/social life.

Personally i’d be looking for another job soon as this Christmas is over.

I reckon you’re right about the generational thing. I can’t say I remember anyone worrying about this sort of thing back in the 60’s 70’s. If I’d been the op here, I’d have had two choices; bring back the drops I didn’t have time to do, or tell him to wait while I went home and got me night out kit, while being paid of course. The email thing doesn’t sound a bad idea either.

Have to say i think myself lucky having a Transport Manager that I have, today for instance up the North East and got caught up this morning on the A64 accident near the A1, 3 drops left so got the 2 done and realising that if I attempted the 3rd one then it will definitely be a night out because of the M42 Friday fiasco, phoned him and told him the situation and he said forget that and bring it back no questions asked as he wants his drivers back on a Friday unless extreme circumstances of course, was a late finish but beers are going down nicely and here I am

You can only show a maximum 15 hour shift on your card. There’s no rule that says the firm cannot pay you for longer, having booked off by the 15 hour mark…

Thus, if you break down 2 hours out 12 hours into your shift, and by the time the breakdown pickup comes along - it is now 14 hours into your shift, you should be booking a 45 break, eject your card before the 15 hour mark, and then you are “off duty” legally for the period being driven back by someone else…

On getting back, a more generous employer would then pay you for the period of being driven back, and chucking your keys in off-duty, etc. and leaving the yard also “off duty”.
It might be 16-19 hours into your day by that point - but you’re legally off duty at the 15 hour mark, so everything is cool…

If a full timer - you’d probably be stood down that night under that scenario if due in - but on agency - you’d just take the next night off unpaid.

Are there still firms out there these days that argue “we cannot legally pay you after 15 hours” ■■ - Wot a load of ■■■■■■■■ - They can pay you whatever they like… If not done fair and square, you’re perfectly entitled to insist on being back at the depot in time for 15 hours in - or you abandon the vehicle on a roadside somewhere. :smiling_imp:

Dee Dee 2012:
I don’t wanna be stuck 2 hours away from home waiting to be picked up (which is illegal now anyway because it will be a works vehicle)

It’s not illegal as long as by the time you get back you’ve not exceeded 13/15hrs duty time.
