Transport managers cock ups that worked out good for you

Hi, Early 80s I was given a load for St Helier, Jersey, plan was tip and get same boat back, so down to Weymouth Friday to catch the overnight boat, tipping in St Helier about half a mile from the dock, you needed a permit for a lorry on Jersey then, which took you from the dock to the drop and back, tipped in a flash and back for the boat, only to be told your not booked on, I replied but I have just got of it, we know, will try and get you on Mondays boat, oh and another thing driver you cant’ sleep in the truck on the dock and your permits run out, so you cant’ go anywhere, you will need to get an hotel, the silence on the other end of the phone was priceless when I phoned in, what a brilliant weekend, top class hotel, full pay and overnights.

Hi Axletramp, you could call it that, Doulton Tempered Glass as it was then, maybe he was trying to tell me something, .
Les.

Remember that Chivers Transport Manager fellow?
He thought he knew all the drivers dodges but most of us
could still run rings round him!
And we were all invited to his leaving party…
