Probably half the TNUK members (inc me) hold and operator CPC, but as shown only a minority rent it out due to the reasons previously stated.

Half of the members on here hold 1■■?

i have one so count me .

Well they did tend to give them away if you could spell your own name correctly. My sister has one after my Dad bet she couldn’t pass it - she won. Very little studying.

Of course it got progressively harder from there to what it is today - difficult.

I have two, and has your Sister got the International CPC ?

Just the National - to be honest I don’t know when the international started? There was no EC back then!!! And of course today there’s just a single CPC.

I remember the owner of a hauliers telling me that during his CPC ‘test’ someone walked round the room correcting people’s answers!!! That was way back when though.

I run a few TM refresher courses throughout the year and meet plenty of people who hold a CPC but their knowledge is way out of date because they have never kept themselves up to date. They’re the ones that have been in front of a TC and sent on a refresher course.

Personally I think the Operator CPC should require some form of compulsory continuous update training along the lines of Driver CPC.

Don’t know if you are joking about giving CPCs away , but if not what do you base your knowledge on? Anyway, whatever it is it’s total ■■■■■■■■. It was far from easy, I remember the course and the guys that failed, you see I was there :bulb:

You say you want even more legislation and pseudo ‘training’ :open_mouth: ? Seriously?
You don’t think the job is far too over regulated as it is, and that most of this job training/dcpc/driver apprenticeships is just paying lip service, raising revenue, and even creating an industry for some to exploit?

Oh hang on a minute…‘You run courses’ that explains your perspective on things clearly, silly me :unamused:

I got mine way back in 83 and last used it around 96.
I have been asked on numerous occasions over the years, to stand in as a CPC holder in different one and two man companies, with various amounts of cash offered …but declined every time.
Problem is if things go ■■■■ up it is the cpc holder’s arse on the line, and after various high profile cases the only ‘bird’ I want to do is one that wears a tight skirt and skimpy top.

What ■■?..Dorean the old bird from “birds of a feather” . I reckon Tracy would be more up your street !!!
Hehehehehehehehe

Old fiddles can still play good tunes mate :bulb:

I base my opinion on information I have been given by people who gained their CPC by a fluke and just a multiple choice test and people I have met who hold a CPC but I have no idea how as I doubt they could pass an exam. I’ve met a good few who have admitted to cheating but that was years ago. Same as ADR. When I did mine Diesel Dave was strict - I’ve met plenty who said the trainer ‘helped’ them elsewhere.

I do think the job is highly regulated, but not overly so as without the regulation it would be a very dangerous place out there. Even with heavy regulation some drivers are forced to take dangerous vehicles out onto the road and work excessive hours. Without the regulation that would be multiplied many times over.

I do think some training is indeed just paying lip service but not all. You get good and bad in all industries. But if drivers have to do it - why shouldn’t the operator? I know full well at times I am sending a driver back to his workplace with greater knowledge than his boss - and that is wrong. That driver may then be over-ruled by his boss and the driver now believes DCPC to be a waste of time rather than being supported by his boss.

I met a driver 3 weeks ago that was stopped by DVSA and didn’t have a CPC. He now gets a day in court and fined a few hundred quid. He had asked his boss who was apparently clueless to the actual rules, made something up and told the driver he didn’t need a CPC. the driver is a victim of his bosses lack of professionalism. He was also driving a 6 wheeler on a C1 licence. His boss had told him it’s OK cos it’s empty - weighs less than 7.5t. The operator has already had DVSA on site - Tacho records have been seized and they’ll be in front of a TC soon enough. All because the operator didn’t keep up with legislation.

Yes - of course I have a different point of view. I’m one of those - a trainer. I offer TM refresher courses simply because along the way someone has asked me if I supply such a service because a TC has told them they must attend a 2 day refresher course - otherwise I wouldn’t bother. It’s called supply and demand I guess.

Ok mate, Well I will give you the flip side of the coin back then, and you can decide who you believe…As I said total ■■■■■■■■. You believe that or not, I don’t really care.

I also have met a lot of guys with Class 1 licences and wondered how they passed their tests, so by the same token I could ask if guys like you are doing their jobs properly.

As for your other points which are obviously going to be biased, you can never account for lack of intelligence and the pitfalls brought about by it. Thankfully not all drivers are uneducated idiots that can not think things through for themselves.

As for the validity of the dcpc? We will agree to differ.

Probably, I hold both the National and international.
Also judging by the responses, its not uncommon for drivers to test their grey matter and attempt the course(s)

Aint worried, just shocked by the attitude and the insult based sweeping statement (based on hearsay) that everybody that got a CPC before he taught the syllabus was basically thick as pig ■■■■.
