Transport Industry

Are there any other forums for the transport industry
because i think this one is virtualy dead

No I’m afraid not. So start a topic you’d like to discuss

:kangaroo:rule on here

Rule on here ??

I think unless everyone piles in like a mosh pit, the forum will go stale as the same 5 nutjobs keep arguing back and forth on the ā€œderanged orangeā€ thread, and the ā€œeveryone hates starmerā€ thread.

We need some new blood, or new topics to discuss.

AI Summary:
Adam, a tall handsome intelligent young dude, says lets turn on the disco lights and party like it’s 1999

ā€˜ā€˜Nutjobs’’ eh Wolfie?
Is that including you Wolfie or are you no.6?
Just asking.

And tbf both the Trump and the Politics threads are on ā€˜ā€˜Bullys’’ ie…the forum for subjects NOT transport related.

And look at the pic.
Ooh the POLITICS thread is first on list would ya believe.

I still log on every now and then in the hope of some chat. When I first joined 3 years ago there was a lot more general transport and road related chatter. There were trolls but mostly benign ones, not like the one we’ve just got rid of, thank god.

I logged on last Saturday to join the thread about getting stuck in the M5 closure and agree how tragic it was that 3 members of a family died and compete with others as to how long their journey actually took…but no one had started that thread and neither did I, Probably for slight fear of not getting any response!

Anyway, for anyone who is interested and did get stuck in it, on the way up it took me a record 8h to do a journey which normally takes me 3h 20m. On the way back it took me 3h 11m which is also a record, so 2 in one day :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Would anyone else like to post their record journeys?

Well behaved kangaroos and other rubbish by one poster
Re Radom crap

Don’t forget Mr Radom crap

The longest road holdups could make for an interesting thread, so why not start it :light_bulb:

Remember during lockdown got from Trafford park to Cardiff with time spare to tip then drive and park up before heading back.
O happy days nothing on the roads. Only down side could hardly find anywhere open to get food n drink

Longest trip when had beast from east had a regular run to Aberdeen. Collect in afternoon deliver next day Explained storm was coming got told they exagurate these things.
Got snowed in on m73 got there next day late on building site was shut as was on coast . and bad weather everyone got told not to turn in.
Brought all way back this was a Friday. Took it back Monday .
Turned out someone sent our place and email they said didn’t receive it.
But was later told we did get email but ignored it.
as this was we can charge them twice once for failed delivery to Aberdeen and again to take it nack

After being subjected to a barrage of inanity it’s suddenly gone very quiet. It makes me suspicious :joy:

did the building company refused to pay it?

to be fair when you started there was a whole bunch of people yourself included that would come and ask sensible questions or updates on their adventures. Now if anyone asks a question 9 times out of 10 its a brand new account that they might answer a couple of times then it goes quiet only for a week or so later for the same question to be asked again phrased slightly differently under a different id.

Yes, 4 countries in one day in the Jaguar. UK (Dewsbury to Dover), P&O crossing, across France, across Belgium, well down into Germany and a welcome hotel.

No idea. Basically was a regular run. Every week to same site.
I had formams number used call Him let him know when was near.
What happened got stuck on motorway overnight. Stopped at Dundee for break rang foreman explained said running late be there about 3 pm . He said no point everyone gone home told them to windy and dangerous to come in. We did send you an email.
So rang office they denied it said go there nobody’s told us got there rang office again after half an hour of phone calls was told ok head back take it back Monday.
If they paid or.not who knows not really my problem

this is why if i am organising anything i do it over the phone then follow up with an email. The phone call may or may not be recorded

i realise its not in this case your problem or in a general sense the drivers issue. However its the driver that gets it in the neck and its the driver that is let go when they loose the contract and its the driver that is blamed for that.

i had it a little bit when i was delivering chemicals to hospitals and universities. We (the drivers) knew which places were shut for holidays and which werent we were told go there anyway they might take it. We even took pictures of the place being shut with notices saying it was shut. Then after the holiday period we all got a lecture from the big boss about wasting time and fuel.

Same on multi drop

get to know what places are shut for dinner hour or close early Fridays..don’t take deliveriess after 3 pm etc.
Or your going past a later drop decided to do it while passing
So you use your brain and skip a few then come back or time your breaks to fit in with closing times etc
Only to be told off for not following the route . You follow the route order then to be told off for bringing stuff back because places were shut. Or you spent to long. At a drop while your waiting to come back from there dinner break etc.

As drivers we can’t wait. Use your brain to help company out save time etc get told off. Do it there way arrive late what ever get told off as well

Yeah, no one really talks about their adventures (jobs) anymore, which I used to find both interesting and helpful. I used to like it when people used to talk about what they had for lunch etc.

We’ve lost a lot of good posters and some of the Class of ā€˜22 who were passing tests the same time as me - Stu has disappeared although Goff still puts in an appearance every now and then. If you’re reading this, how’s it all going? Give us an update on your adventures!

Hello, hope all is well! I still pop back and fore to read any interesting threads but as you say, it has gone very quiet on that front.

For myself, there has been a bit of a change in the last few months. In September last year I got in with the Royal Mail on agency. It was great - easy work, high hourly rate, usually going to the East Midlands or London and back to South Wales, with the odd local day or the odd trip to Bournemouth Airport. I was getting regular work 2/3 days a week whenever I wanted it.

All going great, until one night in February in Feltham in London where I managed to scrape a railing on a tight left hand junction. There was a little bit of cosmetic damage to the trailer, which I reported on my return to the office, as per their handbook guidance. After an investigation meeting, that was sadly my last shift with them.

Although I don’t think my other agency at Tesco would have been so cutthroat, it quickly hit home that even good agency work can be very precarious. Driving for Royal Mail would be a fantastic permanent job, but that seems to be very rare in this area unfortunately.

Around the same time at the beginning of the year, the Tesco work was quiet (as it usually is), so I optimistically applied for a multi drop van driving job with Riverford Organic Farmers, that was permanent, and part time (3 days a week), so felt like a good option.

I managed to get the job on the back of my HGV driving experience, even though I hadn’t done any multi drop work previously, and later found out there were over 80 applicants, so I was pleased with that. I’ve now worked for them since March, and am really enjoying it. The hourly rate is a bit lower than it is on agency, but it is guaranteed 3 days a week, with overtime available on the other 2 days (they don’t work weekends). I’ve got 3 different areas that I’m already familiar with and my days range from 40 drops to 75 drops, so not crazy demands like Amazon or DHL. I start at 6am and am usually finished by 1-2pm, so at the moment I’m really happy with it. It’s also 15 minutes from home which suits better than an hour each way that I was doing previously. I have found that there is a lot less waiting around, and none of the stress of navigating unknown areas in a vehicle too big for the area (although I also miss that a bit too ).

I’m still picking up the odd Sunday shift every month or 2 with Tesco for extra pocket money and to avoid the need for a reassessment with them, but you could say I should now be on VanNet as opposed to TruckNet ha ha.

All good though, hope things are good for you too!
