“anyone remember the Dak on the A74?”

Was that near the current J11 of the M74? Between Lesmahagw and Douglas. A big farm house.
My wifes grandparents ran a place called the Dak there . The inlaws still say there the now.

On the subject of memories and places to eat, I found a site, laybycafe.com with great information on food stops, road works and weather. Well worth a look
Cheers

Hi, big al, i stayed there a few times, it was an education but it was warm and cosy, always a welcome greeting with a STRONG brew, beds were just old ex w,d cots, (iron low frames) straw matresses, lots of early runners made sure everyone was awake after 3.o’clock,
grub was good and plenty of it, big old farmhouse table, you could get a dozen round it easy, still there■■? last time i was up there was about three years ago, sign still on the roof tiles■■?  ta-ta stan the man,

:unamused: it’s only a piece of steel
with wheels on :unamused: :unamused:

HI . NUTSTRANGLER I BELONG TO CRAWFORD AND REMEMBER
THE MERLINDALE WELL.I USED TO HAVE AN EVENING PAPER ROUND
AND I WENT IN THERE TO TRY AND SELL THEM TO THE DRIVERS.
I REMEMBER YOUR FATHER AND YOUR SISTER (WE TRAVELLED ON
THE SAME BUS TO SCHOOL).

What about the Greenhillstairs between Crawford and Beattock, one of the best cafes on the A74,
