Transiting Switzerland

Just finishing a tour in Germany last weekend and got asked if i wouldn’t mind taking a couple of items in the car as the band were flying and trying to avoid excess baggage fee’s. Got a call that plans had changed and they have a gig in Courmayeur, Northern Italy this weekend and can I drive what I was given to the festival, do the lights and go away again.

One of my possible routes is through Switzerland, we play there often and although the band equipment is never a problem the merchandise has to have taxes payed etc. I have 2 boxes of tee-shirts as part of my load in the car and now I am thinking is that a problem to go through Switzerland. They are for sale at the festival in Italy of course, I am wondering what the outcome is if stopped in a car with 2 boxes of tee-shirts, a marching snare drum and a lighting desk in the boot. Is there a right way to go about this or just hope for the best or is it not a problem at all. I have a plan to write “promotional items” on the box…

if that is the case then take the easy way out forget going through
SWISS and hoping you do not get stopped as this may cause you lots
of trouble and strife, GO via KEIFERSFELDEN over the BRENNER
down to MODENA then head MILANO–NOVERA --AOSTA worth it even
if costs a little more as no customs problems due to open borders ,
so for get my tip in your other post this is the better way with out doubt.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, we often go through Swiss with hardware in a car, you’ll be fine. If you do get stopped just say its ‘personal’ equipment. They’re not interested in taking the tax on a couple of boxes of T shirts and a desk.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Have a good trip
