Good Afternoon Everyone,
Just a quick shout out if you don’t mind, at the end of October I have a week off with it being half term at school and I’m pencilled in with Transafe to do my training and test.
But before I go and part with any deposit does anyone have anything to say about them (good or bad) that may swing my opinion either way.
Cheers,
Stan
Wow, a School Child booked in for Training & Test !
How did you manage that Stan ?
Did you tell 'em Porkie Pies about your age. [emoji3]
PS- I was born in Grimsby, don’t remember it though, as I moved to Lincoln when I was about 24 hours old.
Haha well thanks for the input anyway
we are fully accredited for training on a large range of vehicles and equipment from 44 ton articulated lorries
I would ask who the accrediting body is. Just out of interest.

Having read their bumpf and using the DVSA search engine it looks like they have ITSAAR accreditation for FLT courses etc but not DVSA accreditation for the LGV side. The DVSA site does not list them.
Very misleading in my opinion.
Having only looked at their website i’m put off by the lack of pictures on any of their trucks or customer feedback, our company website looks a whole lot more reassuring. Hard to say what you will get for your money, I would go have an assessment with them and few other schools first, as we are in York we might be too far away but must be somewhere decent in Hull - although from what I hear there isn’t!
Hi, the company I work for use transafe for most of our training, I’ve done 3 course’s with them through work, and I’m probably gonna use them when I want to go for my cat C.
They use volvos, and more recently mans. They do a lot of training for tata steel in scunny aswell.
I thought wellwyn in hull was a good training company

I don’t think you should judge a training school by their website. Unfortunately for some companies the website is the last thing they turn their attention to and it just sits there looking drab and doing them no favours - doesn’t mean all the staff aren’t out doing a great job in training vehicles. It’s just the main business takes over in a smaller place.
You are right about the assessment drive though … tells you a lot about what they do and the vehicles etc. My local training school have started charging for assessments now!
Ok well thank you for the help everyone, there is a couple of other companies in the Grimsby area to check out as well,
Lindsey Driving School, Denbys and even Scania do there own driver training in the area as well
A bit of research whilst I sit on my arse at school today doing nothing again for the god knows how many days
This is the list of DVSA LGV Accredited Training Centres for the UK
dft.gov.uk/fyn/lgv.php
You must ask yourself why the list is so short.
Pete

Cheers Peter,
I have seen that before and according to that list none of the schools in my area are approved ■■?
That’s correct.
Why not do the comparison and find out why?

I’m not on it but feel free to google my company name for reviews.
My point is you don’t have to be accredited to be a good school
Paul
But a good school can become accredited. So ask the question “why not?”

Considering I’m only a small company the question is “what’s the point” ?
Paul
I can only presume that people don’t apply for the accreditation as there is more than likely a multitude of hoops and obstacles to jump through not mentioning the expense for something a lot of people may never look at.
I have since found out that Transafe train new drivers of various haulage firms around the area as well as Tata Steel so they can’t be that bad.
Considering I’m only a small company the question is “what’s the point” ?
That’s a bit like saying that a GP working on his own doesn’t have to demonstrate his ability beyond some patients saying he’s ok. The whole idea of accreditation is to formally show that quality is on offer and is continually delivered. It has absolutely nothing to do with the size of the training operation. One man operators can achieve accreditation provided they meet the criteria. Without this, there’s no back-up for the customer.
There really is no reason why any good trainer should be concerned about going for accreditation. And, one day, folks will actually realise the difference.

My mate John could teach me to drive a wagon, of that I have no doubt, however I’d much rather go somewhere accredited so I know that the quality should be there and that each party knows what is expected of them and that the trainers meets the defined standards
