Trans Arabia /S. Jones of Aldridge:A few pics

Whispering Smith I never loaded on a super tanker there but did at Ras Tanura ( SS British Judge ) never thought I would drive there but did …my first Container full of Scaffolding from Jeddah to Ras Tanura the start of that Adventure

.backsplice - whispering smith don’t forget !! Sail before power

Backsplice, I loaded out of Ras Tanura as well, about November 1964.

Then went on the smaller product tankers on the Far East milk run - much better work & good runs ashore

I’ve changed a bit since then:

]img012.jpg[/attachment]I think we,ve all changed a little since the sea going days I was on 5 tankers during my few years 3 X BP 1 x Shell 1x coastal with Stevie Clark also the first Gas tanker "Methane Pioneer " but alas the voyage was cancelled and she was laid up several other dry cargo ships too all great days from 57 till 72 with a spell ashore in between …I was on deck EDH
I have a vast collection of ships photos are there any you are looking for ■■? I have the ones you posted too plus heaps of the Caltex fleet

Nice one A-J the KW s are certainly a truck to look up to , this one is setting up camp in the Desert

Wow, Ron…impressive moving…I first thought your Messrs Jones-cottage in your garden was delivered this way

Produced in 1955 in the US to serve in Germany for military-applications (read…transport of a 280mm gun!!!) some were out
of service around 1975 and Jonet (not Jones) from Charleroi bought four chassis. Two without the Continental (petrol) engines
and two more or less complete but unsure what hampered/missed.

Jonet placed, what else, the ■■■■■■■ NTK 335 (similar to the NTC 335, but produced in the UK) and together with the Allison
TX500 gearbox, ‘only’ three gears to chose from…it did very well in Belgium. Type was M249 during its military life.

By all means…I did not polute this thread as many items gone in a circle of craftmenship when it comes on
solutions with hardly help of technical stuff but moreover the dedication and strength of PERSONS who did the
job…in warm, severe and/or dangerous situations…no comments…DO the job!!!

I wish that was so !!! A-J . 1955 Was the start of early development for all wheeled transport ,cab overs could tip up the rear end in some case , can you believe that TVs could roll out the The back and hit the windscreen on the later models ,

All those years ago

Ronald…did I miss the harvest of your apples with that enormous ladder?

Take care, happy weekend and I often assume you have still Arabic sand between your toes

@Ronhawk…herewith some info on the Kenworths heading for KSA…GCC Olayan

@Ronhawk…herewith some info on the Kenworths heading for KSA…GCC Olayan

Nice one A-J you have started a thread that’s worth reading and looking at ,The Kenworth Desert explores trucks that I have passed on the road and working alongside was a privilege. I share your interest Ron

TOP Ronald!

I wonder, frequently tried to contact GCC Olayan in KSA, if there is more printed on their rich history…when you read correctly
Aramco was a very large and loyal customer but also other customers helped in this sales-succes!

Take care Ron and a happy Sunday…here with rain but 2023 was not that bad regarding the weather.

Boy…what happened in KSA…a M.A.N.-tractor (in TransArabia red and E.R.F. was bought by M.A.N.) bringing in some forklifttrucks.

Sorry Lads don,t know much about Kenworths but enjoy reading about them …tough trucks for sure Ronnie its been a long time now 45 years since we sped across the desert looking at things now a wee bit different from them days still I have my memories to look back on from the great adventure
photo taken not from an aeroplane but from the top of a massive boulder formation some where on the back road between Riyadh and Medina near Al Ghat from memory italian trailers that had been loaded with reo

That’s a good shot Backsplice I often wondered how you got it ,

Dear Ronald F. Hawkins…sounds like a volunteer for running President?

I again did an attempt to get in touch with 75 years young GCC Olayan if they have something on the shelves printed.

Let’s await and find out if high-ranked fruits will drop

merry Christmas Backsplice , and all on this thread . from the Mack shed x Trans Arabia

Ronald…also for you and Mrs. Hawkins as well as your beloved ones…a happy X-mas and thank you
for your input and memories of all times…I checked GCC for more info (documents) on their history
but apparently history doesn’t bother them nowadays…I will dig some archives on Kenworth, Mack and
more important ■■■■■■■■■■■■ safe sound and happy my friend!!!
