a good wireless,
television (colour if you can get one)
spare valves.
video cassette recorder (betamax, or vhs)
green shield stamp book.
candles for at night.
spare log book.
a spare pair of socks.
some cable, so you can steal power from a lamp post for the television. (make sure it’s not a gas lamp).
an ounce of shag.
and a book of matches.
You forgot a plank to put between your door handles to sleep on.

Best thing to do is go out for the first week with what you think you will nedd, then when you get back you will get everything else that you do need.
Yes, that is pretty much spot-on advice.
Essentially you need most of the things you have at home, capable of being condensed into a smaller space and you will learn and evolve as you go on until you get it right, or nearly right.
Tramping is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Personally I couldn’t drive a shopping trolley, going to the same places within a 100 mile radius every shift and being called into the office over minor disciplinary matters every week even for £200 a week more, but we’re all different.

I concur, as a tramper of to many years
ps, theres no definative list, everyones needs are different eg I don’t have a computer or even a TV, I prefer to get out the cab for a while, even if it’s just a walk around the block for an hour (but I do like a pub with decent grub )

Hey guys. Start a new Job two weeks today and its tramping.
What essential items do you boys take with you as ive never done it before?
duvet or sleeping bag (I’ve got a big snooze one that raps round my mattress and is fleeced inside well comfy)
Laptop
Inverter
Wash kit
Towls
Spare clothes
That’s all you need mate and if you have a iPhone download the truck stop app comes in handy
I only found this out last week, as i was told to take an overnight bag, left sunday morning at 5am with butties for two days, flask, cans of pop, ipad and change of cloths.
When i got home again on friday evening i had a list of what i thought i would need, including water carrier, box of food, tins etc, wash kit, single ring cooker, (£10 from tesco) cutlery, etc etc etc.
So this week im trying out to see if i missed anything.
And i would recomend a torch and half a pool que, just in case!!
and the plastic chains hanging from the steps…cos they look soooooooooooooooo cooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllll an prevent all sorts of nasty things happening to you and your truck,
mike68:
A dream catcher some tassled curtains, and a light board with the the make of your truck on it, just in case you forget.
Don’t forget your nameplate for the same reason, if you forget which truck it yours.
Yes whats the point? everywhere I go everyone calls me “Drive”
If I had my own motor I would have one of those 70’s style stick on sun visors on the screen with my name on my side and “Victim” on the passenger side, I would also grow a beard.
Everything above except for the ■■■■ takes . The other great thing are the 2 Litre bottles of value water you get from supermarket value ranges (around 17p). You can empty them during the day and fill them(with the help of a funnel also cheap from a supermarket) at night .
