I have a few friends on Containerlift out of Southampton, most of em are on the OOCL contract which uses MAN XXLs they are all trampers.
another bloke I know works for the same firm on the CMA contract, tramper too,but he has to put up with an FM Volvo wendy house.
How the ■■■■ can companies have 2 totally different types of vehicle for their trampers, hardly fair is it??I could’nt handle being stuck in an FM all week unless I was on the car transporters or something and getting paid a lot better money for the privilage!!
I was told a few years ago that a law was coming in,so that to sleep in a vehicle all week, you should be able to fully stand up in it,not the case apparently…as long as its fitted with a bunk it doesn’t matter how big or small the cabs are.

Exactly. MMTM.
Just as a point of interest, would that mean that the lanky gits would have FH Bogtrotters and the shortarses would be palmed off with FM’s?

Well they measure you up for a pushbike so what truck is fitted with 26 x 1,3/8 tyres
Did you know that all the car transporter lads are interviewed in a broom cupboard?
[/quote]
You obviously sat in on my interview then Always makes me smile when drivers moaon about being given a’space cab instead of a magnum’ or vice versa. Try 4 nights out in a low roof renault premium ,& before anyone thinks i’m whinging i’m not

I can stand up in my current truck, which just happens to be an FM Globetrotter and I’m 5’11". Passenger seat folds up and I can stand in front of it should I wish. Anyway, what is this fascination blokes have for standing up to put their trousers on?
apparantly if your bigger than a uk size 12 shoe boot you cannot drive a manual due to there not been enough room between the pedals health and safety
as long as it has a sunroof im ok in a low roof renault premium

Ive known rumours to start between drivers in the furthest reaches of Europe and then get back to the transport office in the Uk before the driver that started the rumour. It’s just too easy to start myths, the one I started has been repeated to me as fact by more than a few drivers over the 3 or 4 years since I started it. It always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to hear it again, almost like meeting up with a long lost friend.

Go on then tell us what Rumour!!!
Wasn’t it something to do with coloured lights in the windscreen and gay dogging Neil? …I’m not sure if it’s a myth or just someone trying to cover his tracks?!

yeah, seems to be some sort of Holy Grail to most drivers - I’m 6’ 0" by the way
anyway Niel, come on what’s this rumour you propogated into an urban myth then?
Its a little cramped in my lowline scanny, but its about getting all your gear in the right place!
I have heard this rumour too with regards to minimum / maximum dimensions for tramping vehicles BTBH dont believe it cos there would be up roar.
And to think i bought a topline cos i was afraid of the cab police
I did Euro tramping in a Volvo F88 and it did me no harm at all.
By today’s standards, that probably wouldn’t even count as a proper sleeper cab, never mind a high line.
I agree with Coffeeholic too, so exactly what difference does a person’s height make?
Mind you, that’s easy for me to say, cos I’m only 5’ 7"
Oh man, I didnt expect this to take off like this, but thanks anyway guys. Even though its just a rumour it would’ve been nice to be given back my highline Stralis. They took it off me and gave it to a pole of all people, he’s smacked it twice so far taking out the front n/s corner (no racism intended I know some good people from poland who drive just as good, if not better, than me.)
BTW I’m on the OOCL contract through China Blue through my firm… sheesh.

I’m 6’ 3" dd, even standing up with the sunroof tilted I feel like the hunchback of notredame, mind you the fact I look like good ole quasimodo doesnt help…
Oh well! Time for me to be off on the road again. Blasted early starts, got to be in Rugby for 7am…:lol:
Kickstart, I remember that rumour about the steering wheel having to be so many inches from the bunk, reminds me of the story of a driver parked up asleep at the Red Lion, police knock on his door, “sorry driver you can’t sleep in there, your too close to the wheel”, driver leans over takes a big spanner to the wheel then chucks it out the window, " is that far enough for ya" probably not true, but made me laugh!
