mine has always been a very strong and independent person so me being away didn’t seem to bother her but over the last few years she seems to have become the opposite , tears on the phone every night , every night can you get home tonight , it’s become a lot worse since my girl moved out , tonight my girls popping in and you can hear the difference in her voice .
I guess as you get older ( she’s 55) you feel a bit vunerable , it’s the tears , crying that does me , it just isn’t her
I just wondered has any one else had this , she even said when I go on a Sunday night at 11/12 pm she doesn’t settle , only sleeps when I’m there at the weekend .
I guess when we’re away we only really think about ourselves and not the wife on their own
TBH I get the same reaction if I say I am going to be home early. The tears start and her voice changes, its really odd how well she seems to cope without me.

Either get a good divorce lawyer or a different job so your around a bit more by the sounds of it

Somebody asked me the other day “Why are you so fat?” so I said “Because every time I shag Dozy’s wife, she gives me a biscuit”.
The missus does the week away so its house husband stuff for me at the moment. Has its advantages, clean the place from top to bottom (ocd problem) do the shopping, do the rest of the weekly chores on the monday and its an easy rest of the week. Leaving a few cleaning odds and ends out/ vacuum cleaner plugged in ect is a must on the saturday though…

If my Mrs was in floods of tears about me being away I’d figure out which one I was most fond of; if it was my job then I’d sack the Mrs, if it was my Mrs then I’d sack the job. It really is as simple as that.

Your wife has been crying on the phone every night for the “last few years”, and you’re only now wondering whether it’s normal? Good heavens!
In all seriousness though, when you’re away you’re working most of the day and it’s just business as usual as it always has been. Whereas if your wife is having to adjust to having no children at home, husband working long hours and away all the time, and perhaps becoming a bit isolated, perhaps it’s time to think about spending a bit more time at home?

Menopause or empty nest syndrome . Quite usual once the kids have left home , not helped if you’re away all week .
