I thought I would have learned by now about how much junk you collect as a tramper
ops
obviously not
Changing trucks next week and even in my little G cab over the year I’ve been in it I’ve collected junk again
I’m moving in to an XF super space so twice as much room to fill
When I left my old place and therefore become a “day driver” only, I was emptying my cab out of the last day and I was like Jesus christ. There’s stuff I’ve never even used!
So I took what I wanted, binned the real crap, and left the rest in the cab (as in piled nicely, not just left in every cupboard etc) and left a note for the next guy saying have what you want, bin what you don’t
I only do a 4 day week on UK now, but my mindset is still to carry stuff for being a few weeks away.
I’m covered for every eventuality, just far too much ■■■■ crap.
When I used to clear out my cab before going on holiday, I was amazed at the things that I found that I hadn’t seen since I filled the cab after the last holiday!!
I used to hate emptying out a cab it is sole destroying! Worst one for me tho was when I moved into a cab and the previous tenant left something behind. I lifted the bunk to fit the sheet and there it was in all its glory! More manhood than I could ever give a woman! I just couldn’t look at the bloke the same again after that
I could fill a Ford Fiesta when taking a weeks holidays with bedding , inverter ,tv, microwave , kettle, toaster , pots and pans . gas stove etc etc . That didnt include the tools and “stuff” kept in the side lockers .
As others have said the amout of stuff you gather over the years becomes a little frightening - getting a new truck every 3 years forces a cleanout and a sort out on a regular basis .
Cleared much of my stuff out recently as I was on a fortnight’s holiday; seemed to take ages!
The most annoying thing is that when you go back, no matter how diligent you are there’s always something you forget.
Well I’ve got to do a truck transfer latter next week
But at least I’m going from a G cab to an XF so loads of room to fill
I thought most lorry drivers were ex-military , I’d of expected most cabs to be spotless / everything having a place etc
dozy:
I thought most lorry drivers were ex-military , I’d of expected most cabs to be spotless / everything having a place etc
How wrong you are Dozy , 7 drivers at our place , 2 office bods , wear house bod and the boss
Only ex forces are the Boss and a rigid driver who’s scared of his missus
Rest of us drivers are either from transport backgrounds from nippers or come in to it from other sectors
Gotta be a claw hammer involved somewhere
I’m kidding, that’s a cheap shot taken from the Clarkson Book of Humour
