Trains stopped after lorry hits bridge near pub

As Brenda from Bristol said when there was another election announced, she said not a bloody another one.

:money_bag::money_bag::money_bag::money_bag: when it says passengers can use the bus for free…. That’s so easy to do because they will pass the extra costs onto the haulier as part of their claim.
For the driver, that wasn’t such a short, quick and cheap shortcut as they thought!!!

They? How many drivers were there!!

That’s tea and biscuits with the Traffic Commissioner when the brown envelope lands on the doormat for a “chat” as they insert a probe without using lubricant.

So you go in to the meeting that will start with: Mr Stevie Wonder, did you check the height of the trailer that it corresponded with the legal requirement to display the overall height inside the cab?

No Guvnor, I couldn’t be bothered, I’ve been using that road for years and Bill from the yard said go that way as it’s quicker.

That’s the end of the meeting, we will let you know the outcome of a licence curtailment, revocation or removal.

“They” is network rail, who happily pat for passengers to continue the journey by bus, because the haulier will be footing the bill. It’s a costly few drivers realise their actions will cause their employer

It would be interesting to,find how many owner drivers hit bridges!!!

A bridge too far  or too near in this case.

The bus and coach company will be paid for a full vehicle regardless of how many passengers use it.

Can’t see how this keep happening, there’s plenty of decent atlases with bridge heights, a driver should always know the height of the trailer and not rely on the height set in the cab as that could be wrong if the previous driver had a trailer with a different height, there are measuring devices available to buy.
The maximum sentence for dangerous driving is two years in custody then an extended driving test must be taken to get the licence back, we never hear of the outcome of court cases in MSM related to bridge strikes.

Not a mitigation, but do they really need the bridge inspected by an engineer? These bridges are designed to accommodate trains weighing many hundreds of tons, do they really think a tap with a bit of fibreglass is going to damage the structure?

They use an engineer everytime because it’s part of their procedure, and when there’s a bridge strike they follow procedure - not make shortcuts. It’s a shame some drivers don’t follow their own procedures - know their vehicle height and comply with road signs😳

It doesn’t help with the public perception of lorry drivers.

If it was only a plastic air fairing hitting the bridge then substantial damage is unlikely, but, if a harder clout then there could be something more that is not visible without closer inspection.

Bridges deteriorate without being hit and any extra damage should be checked out.

Only a slight chance of failure maybe, but why take a chance when the potential outcome so bad?

I think there’s a list of the most hit bridges in the UK.

Or the guvnor did measure it and agreed with the driver it’s 4m high and that’s where the in cab indicator is set.
The bridge doesn’t look 4.3 metres high. Its another one which doesn’t look much higher than the unit let alone over 14’.
This one is only marked 6’’ higher and that’s enough clearance for double deck buses and car transporters.

Thanks Carryfast.

Anyway…@Stuar, thank you for posting it, mainly because it gave me the chance to see and read the words of my pinup of the moment, the sexy Susie Fletcher of The Repair Shop. :joy:

What?? I’m an old bloke, what would you prefer, me looking at young bits of stuff? The names Spardo, not Paedo. :squinting_face_with_tongue:
