Training without license

Rushed in like a plonker and booked my c&e training and test without waiting for my license to come back. My training starts on the 25th of June with test on the 2nd.
I’m panicking now cause my license isn’t back.
My question is will I still be able to train without the actual license in my hand?

I’ll leave the answer to one of the trainers, as they will be able to give you the correct information.
But in the meantime I would be calling up DVLA everyday, explaining your situation and being as ‘likeable’ as possible in the process
It will help and if you hit the right person your app. can be speeded up.
Also, I hope you application was ‘normal’ in that there were no special circumstances or medical conditions to take into account - otherwise I’d be worried for you :open_mouth:

Hope it works out,
Jon

Ok firstly don’t panic

I’m assuming that you’re waiting for the licence after passing the Cat C test. If so did the examiner deal with the licence after passing or did you send it off. Also when did you pass the Cat C

Go onto the gov.uk site and check your licence details. It may already show the CE provisional. If this is the case the licence might be in the post from DVLA.

If the licence shows the entitlement then legally the training could happen BUT you will not be allowed to take the test without the examiner seeing the licence.

I said don’t panic because the course is not due to start for a week. If the examiner deals with the licence after passing Cat C it usually takes about 10 days to be returned.

Look online and see if you have the CE provisional = gov.uk/view-driving-licence
If on it then you can drive CE on L plates

Without the physical licence you cannot take the test as the examiner will need to view it just prior to test

hi John and SNAP

Cheers for replies.
I passed cat c 22nd of May and sent the form of myself after doing mod 4 on the 28th, I’ve phoned dvla on they said its in their system and they’ve put a note on to hurry up.
3 weeks will be up on the 23rd. I’ve checked the online license status it show cat c waiting to be claimed. So I can’t train unless c&e is showing as provisional.

Ok, things are progressing. I would call the training company and explain the situation and ask what would be the latest date you could postpone the course.

After all they were fully aware of the situation after you passed Cat C but needed to keep the licence. What you can’t do is just hope it works out. You could end up losing your CE course.

You are a valuable customer to the trainer. I’m sure they will offer you different options.

Finally call DVLA each day. Let them know your timetable and thank the person for their wonderful help.

Hope this works out and it probably will.

We always used to allow 3 weeks for the licence to be returned. But we got caught out once so we try and go for 4 weeks. No problems since.

All the best with it, Pete
