Training - tacho

just thinking ahead to my training, and wondered what happens with the tachograph while on training?

They usually get you to fill one in and use it BUT it is only a training aid - it does not count for any official purpose

thanks ROG.

if you are doing any driving that week do you need to record it as other work?

i thougt you did?

even though you are not being paid for it!

Hmm… I think training is WTD exempt - but I’ll know for sure once the one of the GURUs sees this :unamused:

Any training is classed as other work and therefore a tacho should show a man record for that day
even though your not getting paid your not at rest your training
I will re check this for you when i get the book out
Praise be to the drivers bible

Unless you are not driving under EU regs that week which for a usual one week training course is usually the norm

This is how I see it

Only if your driving in scope on any day that fixed week and only if work related, if however your paying for it yourself and its how you “freely dispose of your time” then no record under EU rules or WTD is required. I’m not sure if Training schools require an O license, I’m pretty sure they don’t, so LGV training doesn’t come under GB rules either.

I must point out I can’t find a definitive answer though.

thats how i see it as well baz but you never know do you! might be worth getting teh right answer for any other newbies.

I’ll bet tachograph or coffeeholic knows the answer

I’ll go with that lads

Rest and other days off
The period of time unaccounted for between successive charts produced by a driver should normally
be regarded as (unless there is evidence to the contrary) a rest period when drivers are able to dispose
freely of their time. In the UK, drivers are not expected to account for this period, unless enforcement
authorities have reason to believe that they were working

But when you do training it is normally Mon - Fri with test on a Fri

I know not always as there are different ways of doin it

You dont ues a Tachograph in the training schools

I agree with MADBAZ, If you’re training is being paid for by the company then you’re fulfilling the duties of your employer and therefore it should be manually recorded as other work if you drive in-scope of EU regulations at any time during the week.

if you’re paying for the training yourself and being trained in your own time then you’re not at work, not at the disposal of the employer nor exercising his functions or activities therefore you don’t need to record it as other work.

In either case I would say that the training wouldn’t count for the WTD regulations unless it was whilst participating in road transport activities, being trained on the job so to speak.

from the VOSA rules on drivers hours and tachographs 2007
