Training school needed to pass CPC?

Hello Trucknet Members,
Apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

I passed my LGV2 last July using a training provider (happy with service received). This I did after completing the necessary theory tests which I did by myself.

I have not received a Driver Qualification Card, which from what I have read from gov.uk will not be received until 35 hours of CPC training is completed.

However, trying to check my current record of training on the gov.uk site and it informs me there is no record of any training being completed.

Does this mean that CPC training can only be recorded if carried out using a training school? If so why? I completed the tests (which as far as I understand are parts 1, 2, and 3 of the initial CPC training record and count towards the 35 hours) and passed!

Bottom line, do I need to start CPC training with a provider before I can drive professionally? Sorry, and how many hours do I need before starting to drive?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi. Trying to work out exactly what you’ve done. If you did case studies at the theory test centre, then you should have completed Mod 4 which is the practical demonstration test at the driving test centre. Not to be confused with the “normal” driving test.

This is what it sounds like. Your training provider should be able to clarify this for you. Or come back with a bit more info and someone will clear it up for you.

Do you have a pre 1997 car licence or passed a LGV C1 test (known as 7.5 tonner) between 1997 and 2014?

If no then you need to pass DCPC initial LGV theory module 2 and DCPC initial LGV practical module 4

If yes then you need to complete 35 hours od DCPC periodic training

You need whichever is relevant to you to get a DQC driver cpc card to be able to drive commercially for 5 years

Hi Peter and Rog,
Thank you for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

Peter, I passed the LGV driving theory test in February 2013. This comprised of the large vehicle test of driving theory (multiple choice) and the large vehicle test of hazard perception test. I did not do this with a training provider.

I then completed and passed my practical driving test category C (LGV) in July 2014. I completed this through a training provider.

Rog, I obtained my driving licence in 1984. Therefore, my response to your questions is yes. However, you mention I need 35 hours of cpc, but do I hold any cpc qualifications with the tests I have completed above. Also do I need to complete 35 hours before starting as a professional LGV driver?

Many thanks for your help.

No you do not have any dcpc hours already unless you paid extra for the practical training which must be dcpc approved if that was the case - dcpc hours are not automatically given if the course was approved - you would have done extra paperwork if it was and you paid the extra

It seems that you now need all the 35 hours of periodic dcpc before you can commercially use either your pre 97 C1 (and C1+E 107) or recently gained C as they are all under LGV

Like wot ROG said.

Remember you are not legal to drive professionally until you have completed all 35 hours.

Thanks Rog and Pete,
I now understand that I have zero cpc hours, and I need to complete the 35 hours before driving professionally (legally).

Your responses have saved me lots of time searching for something I don´t have. So once again many thanks.
