I’ve decided togo with Ace, with the test being in Chelmsford. Can’t wait to get on with the training now Thanks for all the replys.

Toast,
Out of interest what are you looking to do, class 2 and stay with it or use it as a stepping stone to getting a class 1 licence. Have you any idea what sort of work you would like to do? You may get some worthy pointers about employers who take on new drivers.
(Although I realise that might seem a way off yet!)
My aim is to get my class 2 maybe gain some experience for a while then getting on with my class 1. Getting the class1 is where I want to be really. I have heard it is quite difficult to get a driving job as many companys dont take on new drivers, So I’d be greatful for any pointers for when that time comes.
You can get work as a new driver but it’s not usually the pick of the bunch.
DBC, Brakes and the laundry place in Chelmsford all take (or have done) new drivers, it’s hard work multidropping schools, hospitals, hotels that sort of thing, quite a bit of lugging stuff about. It’s also early starts, a fair amount of London and probably not the best paid. However you’ll learn a hell of a lot more doing that than a trunk run or a long distance job, manoeuvering and time management skills get a real work out.
Skips, bins and vac tanks are not very glamourous and could be worth a look. When was looking RJ Roe were always advertising for drivers on their vac tanks, the pay wasn’t great and a bloke I worked with had been offered a job as a newbie but turned it down because of the money. That might have changed in the last few years though as they seem much more prolific and their fleet is now modern and very tidy.
Don’t wait for jobs to come to you, you’ll have to get out and find them.

I booked my trailer test with ace today, got mine on the 3rd october, i asked them about where their doing tests now and they have moved to chelmsford, its because of the LEZ crap. When you taking your test? Where abouts in essex are you?
You’ll get a job, as has been said you probably wont end up with the best job but its experience and a refence at the end.
Thanks 8wheels I’ll bare those in mind. Being in a job that gives your manoeuvering skills a work out is what I need. Think the reversing is what im going to struggle on.
