Training - 2 to 1 all day or 1 to 1 half day - not all day?

Despite what I previously posted (I find that most of the time, 2:1 works better), my HGV 1 training, as it was then, was done 1:1.

I was trained by Tockwith in 1991, at their old location (Tockwith Airfield), in a yellow Volvo F7 (?) IIRC. I was funding the training myself so wanted (needed!) the most cost effective option. I went for an assessment drive, during which time I nailed the manoeuvring first time and had a good road drive. I was given a few options but went for the 1.5 days training and then the test, a total of 2 days. I was taken around each of the possible test routes once, did a couple more brief sessions on the manoeuvring area and then did the test, which I passed. It cost me £485 all in.

I was perhaps lucky that I had a lot of practise reversing trailers on the farm and some of the longest trailers we used, combined with a dolly on the front, made for a steep learning curve to start with. My point though, is that I was worn-out at the end of those two days. If I had have needed more than the two days, I would have had to reduce my hours behind the wheel and it would’ve cost me more in the long run.
