After advice ref trailer types, I had curtain slider which was called an avo, can anyone explain what types there are and anything I should be aware of please.
It depends on what you type of work you want to do with the trailer.
Curtainsiders (no l) are the modern equivalent to flats with sheeted and roped loads. They are the general purpose trailer of today, jack of all trades.
They are made by lots of companies. Some build curtainsider bodies onto chassis from trailer builders. Some start from the ground up, build their own chassis, build their own body on top.
I don’t remember a company called Avo.
curtainsiders, anything that involves a curtain, there are several types about.
tautliners, tin/fiberglass/grp roof, and curtains for the side.
euroliners, curtain type roof, usually opens from back to front. and curtains for the side.
coilliners, as above, but with removable floor sections to allow coils to be loaded.
I’m sure there are more types around, that others use.
what were “Tilts” ? was that like a curtainsider with the wooden flappy up and down 18" high boards round the sides (seemed to be popular on the continent 20 years ago) … it was an odd name … or have I had too much beer lol
or were they like a curtainsider that you could convert into a flatbed?

Both, in a way. Most of them had metal drop sides and a frame which was covered in canvas sheets which you could build up and strip down in a variety of combinations.
This is what they look like in bits; credit to bestbooties for the pic.
Never had much to do with them myself, but I’m told that there’s a bit of an art to stripping and building one.

All trailer types or just curtain siders? Being genuine and not taking the mick asking. Non of us were born knowing it so fair question.
Yes that’s them, we were arsin about with ropes and tarpaulin at the time and one of these come into the yard, it was obviously the future. No more wrecking your back trying to unfurl stupidly heavy sheets, and getting soaked by that guaranteed gallon of water that would suddenly slosh out from between the folds, and ropes all frozen up…
Anyway I do like that F89, think I have drove one of those, 4 over 4 box and a massive 300hp motor - seriously fast. lol

330bhp and 16 speed (4 over 4 with a splitter )

330bhp at 32 ton would be comparable with 450bhp at 44 ton, although I suspect the power band is much wider on the modern engine so much easier to drive, (and that is obviously ignoring the introduction of iShift)
I used to love the ‘tilts’ especially if you had to do a top load/unload on a windy day, even more so if no one would lend a hand.

Tilts are just something else thankfully dying a long overdue death along with palm couplings, manual gearboxes and roping and sheeting.
palm couplings are still alive and well and still see some tilts about too, although i always thought tilt was the word you used when falling over…arse over tilt for eg
It’s 'arse over ■■■ ’ innit ?
It’s 'arse over ■■■ ’ innit ?
Of course it is…just avin a laff innit.
