Why do most lorry driver leave their trailer doors open at night when parked (sleeping) on the road? Is it to warn intruders that the trailer is empty and avoid them breaking open the trailer or why is this?
It seems a well established practice because nationwide, wherever I travel especially at night, I tend to encounter this.

well,duh…
its actually a secret sign between fellow gender identity crisis truckies so they know the other driver will be open to a late night discussion about fannypads, and other topical womens issues…

That’s a real ■■■■■, bed down on a fri night for an empty run in sat morning to find 6 drops on your trailer
the real ■■■■■ is having to take back the returns.
years ago i had a garage with the garage next door belonging to 2 car theives…this was when a sierra cossy was the dogs doodahs…they stripped one, then went out, nicked a rigid, dumped the shell and all the bits they didnt need into the back of it,then took it back to where they lifted it from…i would have loved to have seen the face of whoever opened the door in the morning…
I’ve always considered it a negative tactic, it’s ok for you if empty, but that means potential thieves will target the next one with closed doors and a higher probability of ‘success’. No fewer break ins, but you’ve just made their job easier by improving their success rate.
yes while the question was kind off obvious and replies cranked me up big time, i was still interested in a confirmation. All and all having a laugh and getting real info is a win win

Yeah I remember from one of my cpc days the trainer saying that, all I said though was we are all looking after number 1.
When I worked with garden plants in the summer we left the doors open as it was good for the plants and I never knew of any going missing.
just remember Mwanyoko, if you don’t know the answer there is no such thing as a daft question, the question will be will you get an answer worth listening to, doubtful on hear I am ashamed to say.
