Traffic Police Cameras

Anyone know if these busy bodies cameras face only to the front of the car or can they be rotated? Think I may have just got caught speeding, going down a steep hill and the car coming up had his full beam on to warn me of their presence (usually i get flashes because people think my lights are on full beam so i thought it was this) and with him doing this and me trying to make out where i was going my speed crept up… only thing im taking restbite from just now is that the car was facing the other way and not facing me.

Oh lord…

Patrol cars usually come after you if youve done wrong.

I agree ive only heard of fpn coming in the post from a fixed camera or a mobile camera van. If these guys clock you speeding they usually stop you at the roadside to issue the fpn.

And yes, the camera can move in the front window

the patrol cars are generally waiting to pick up any offences like no insurance, no tax etc, on their apr system…however they are capable of clocking your speed as well, but as mentioned this would have been actioned on the spot…so looks like you live another day to tell the tale

Where did you get that picture from? Think I know that fat monkey in the background…

Not nescessarily.
I passed a trafic car like the above just a couple of weeks ago (at 40), the officer was pointing a hand held lazer trap out his door window to the oncoming trafic. A friend of a friend recieved a NIP through the post less than a week later from the this same trap on the same afternoon I passed it .

The car was on my side of the road pointing in the direction of the traffic coming towards him, not behind him. Hopefully I’ve just been lucky.

The picture is from Flickr btw.

Lazer gun wont work through glass then, gota be pointed through an open window. Bit’a luck, you’l be OK. Let us know the outcome, they have 2 weeks.

Unless the car was behind you clocking your speed, or stationary theres no way they could have got your speed as if there moving toward you there speed would be added to yours if they used a laser device, and there are two many variables for them to get an accurate speed of your vehcile for example if you were moving toward them at an angle as normal other wise you would hit them lol

Strange because to get a prosecution in court they need to provide photographic evidence of a vehicle speeding.
A hand held laser device only measure speed, it doesn’t take a photo. They could get the registration wrong etc. Would never stand up in court without a photo

Ok to clear a few things up.

The traffic car WAS stationary. I came from behind them, travelling eventually in front of them. I’m thinking chances are they were clocking the oncoming traffic rather than the traffic from behind them.

Ermm no because the fella in the link was pulled over.

I’m talking about they can’t clock your speed by laser then slip you a NIP through the post. If they do it via the post you have to be shown proof

On the A38, coming out of Plymouth last Thursday towards Exeter. There was a BMW Police car in a lay-by with a camera on his roof…Pointing rearwards. What’s that then? :open_mouth:

My mate just got done by a Tayside camera van.It was parked on the verge at Bankfoot, where the old fixed camera used to be,with the cameras pointing towards traffic coming from the North.Mate was travelling north-bound,apparently they now have a camera in the windscreen.Thought that was to catch bikers as they only have a rear number plate.Times must be hard in Tayside

ANPR camera.

What was you doing speeding anyhow Sam? Don’t newly qualified drivers have a 2 year probation period where they can only get 6 points then banned. It’s a good way of chucking your class C away.
Your supposed to be trying to get a job driving and complaining that your age experience is letting you down, I’m pretty sure 3 points is going to look great on your CV and help you secure that lucrative job. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
and get your lights fixed
