''traffic'' on sat navs

I can do this on my 5150

Cheers Bald, feels like we might be getting there.

So, being as i’m going to somewhere i’ve been a hundred times before, i don’t need or want directions, all i want is to let the satnav run and if i fancy is it simple to just enter the menu and check for traffic anywhere in the vicinity or on any possible route without actually having to enter any destination please?
What i don’t want is to be (in theory) using the A5 quite happily with no probs, then a massive smash shuts the M1, and there i am happily unaware that thousands of vehicles are about to meet up with me at Weedon Cross roads for example all following their own GPS redirects, soon as i know M1 is shut at 16 i’ll be off on another route entirely, one which satnav won’t suggest at reroute.

I’m very much obliged to you lot for putting up with my inane questions, thanks lads.

IIRC (and I only did that y’day evening  ) if you zoom out 1 more level (-) it just shows hundreds of orange dots… I’ll connect it to the PC in a bit for any updates and have a look. How fast these things actually update a reroute I’m not sure…could be a few minutes etc, depends how quick the info is passed on. If you use the IQ routing/maps (buried in the menu somewhere) it uses ‘traffic history’ or whatever it’s called and avoids hotspots and can either be set up to ignore a reroute or to ask if you want it. TT’s traffic is one of their Live Services

Looking forward to what you find Actrosman, thanks.

Why couldn’t Trafficmaster just have left their old YQ system running, silly old buggers like me were more than happy to shell out every year for a new ‘timekey’, all it did was show traffic but nothings replaced it that is as simple and easy to operate and read since that actually works as well.

Nothings allowed to be simple any more…rant moan winge mutter ■■■■■■■■ rant humpf sod em etc etc

If you do zoom in and tap a symbol, it does show you more information…tap the car for instance…

From the first screen, tap options and you can choose if you want to avoid it (unless you have it set to avoid the delays permanently and find a faster route, although sometimes it chooses that the ‘faster route’ is actually longer than the actual delay (slower, twisty A road etc) and sends you to the back of the queue…much to the annoyance of the user! Oh…mine is also the 5150 Pro Trucker or whatever it’s called! Anymore Q’s, feel free to ask…I might be of some help!

Above and beyond the call of duty Actrosman, thanks, very much obliged to you.
That’s just what i was after.

That seems to answer my questions, unless someone can come up reliable info that Garmin’s digi traffic can be made to do similar, TT is getting the sale…i’d stick with Garmin by choice because i’m used to how they work, but if they’ve gone backwards and no longer useful except on route that’s no bloody good for me…that’s more or less what happened with Trafficmaster when they replaced YQ with their version of sat nav, no longer fit for purpose for our type of use.

Thankyou one and all, TT it is.

Nice summary actrosman,
I will use the overview map on TT to look at major cities I have to transit.
Paris (I do not mean Hilton) is a good example, I know my way around, but because you have a number of alternatives, I will look at traffic on the the different possibilities the closer i come to the city, and I will decide the last minute wich way to go.

If you are not to familiar with a city, put a number of places on different alternatives in your recent destinations before departure and let TT figure out a route be specifying your route throughthose different places for different alternatives. Check eta and make your choice accordingly. I hope this makes sense, or am I complicating things

Edit: added a word

Get the 5250 Crusty. Very good indeed.

Not sure which one i’ll get, definately going to be a TT though.

Not having a truck one out of sheer bloody mindedness, never be able to hold me head up in the snug again… :smiling_imp:

buggered if i know what happened there, sorry, back to work chaps.
