In fact on a reread that’s Mr D your talking about
Lol. Saw him in the Scanny last year (before you stole it from him).
Couldn’t believe that Burt Reynolds delivered fork lifts. Think I was underneath you last week mate. [zb]…let me re-phrase that.
About 2pm on Friday I was heading North on the M6 and you went over the bridge above me. Ashton in Makerfield golf club would come up on your left hand side at the lights. (Back of Haydock Ind Est).

Points appreciated Conor, thanks, in my job there isn’t really any waiting time as such and i’m not one for poncing about with electronic stuff more than i have to.Bald, that’s some interesting points there, you sound about the same as me, don’t really need it as a sat nav at all, its more as replacement for the old Trafficmaster YQ unit that i’m after, just the sat nav happens to include the street map and is a useful spare set of eyes for hidden junctions etc.
Anyone else has either a Garmin With digital traffic or a TomTom with live traffic, i’d be much obliged for what you think of them.
Thanks for taking the trouble gentlemen.
I have a Garmin, it will just automatically change my route if I’m running into traffic. It will show the road on the “birds eye view” as red or yellow depending on how bad it is. I also tend to listen to 5Live all day as it has the best (I think) travel news, so if I’m heading somewhere and there is traffic I tend to know before the satnav
When I first started i would just blindly follow, now I’ve been tramping near 10 months and know how to get to most places with a 2nd route should anything go crazy .
Also, I’ve never updated mine nor paid for anything special like “live traffic updates” , it just does it.

Cheers Sinclair, is that Digital traffic or the other version that brings the icon up that you can press to enter traffic menu…mind you its entirely possible digi traffic does it the same way , but digi traffic brings up info on the right half of the screen and is different display to the one i have.

No idea, all I know is mine goes “ding” and it will have changed from ,say, 78 miles to 65 but it would take me around , say, Wolverhampton at 5pm…well I may as well stay on the M6 and sit in traffic because it will be no quicker.
If I put in a destination and there’s already traffic it won’t even route me on it, it will route around it. Should the traffic clear it will reroute to the more sensible route.
As I say, I tend to know before the satnav where traffic is so I can plan ahead.

Righto, thanks mate.
cor blimey this is a right game.
Juddian:
One other question Evil/Bald, does the TT traffic offer info about delays not on your chosen route, and can you get a quick scan of delays anywhere other than selected route via the menu without too much difficulty…baring in mind i’m still at pushing button A to connect and B to get my 4d back level at the phone box…
Not directly, but you can look on screen around your chosen route where most traffic problems are.

Another +1 for the tomtom, just a word of warning, don’t go for the car option, although it will find you an alternative route it’ll be the dodgiest run ever, with my truck unit I know if it finds an alternative route it’s usually going to be safe to take a truck down there.
This is what I like about the truck version, it will give you a decent alternative (which I still will check on a paper map ), only as evil says, when there are no truck alternatives, the fun begins …
(done that and got the T shirt )
I tried my sons Garmin with traffic, and I think the TT works better, but maybe that is because I am used to TT.
For the mount, I have a TT bean bag where i can put mine on, and I leave that on the dash, (No table). This makes cleaning a lot easier.
Thanks Bald, all good stuff.
Still undecided about TT/Garmin, going to have a play at Helfords in a while and see how i can get on with TT, like you i’ve got well used to the one make even if i only use the thing once a month.
If you buy a TT 51 truck series, in a lot of countries they give you life long maps, so you get 4 new maps a year as long as the TT survives. The live services varie and with a bit of searching on the net, you can find some cheaper deals.
The live services also has a search version, in the beginning this was google, but not anymore, and it is not as good as google.
TT Live Traffic is awesome isn’t it… I use mine to give me an accurate ETA more than anything and it keeps telling me that (going to Chepstow) either the bridge is closed (which it is if over 2.9m wide) due to the lane closure and throws a spaz, then wants to reroute back up and wind my way back to the new bridge or b, come off at j1 and back up the slip road, which they save for when it’s windy! Would be ok if the traffic was updated regular and not on a weekly/fortnightly basis! Other than that, it’s spot on
Oh a black mark for TT’s traffic, thanks Actosman.
Just realised haven’t been to bloody Helfords yet for a tinker with the display models, been busy swapping the wheels round on the gaffers car, but then she’s slaving over a hot stove at this very moment with ribs/chops/corn on the cob, jacket spud and a side salad for dinner, and i’m on the first of couple of Bud’s so t’ll be tomorroz now…

Nope wasn’t me, I was down in Caerphilly Friday, heading back down there tomorrow afternoon for a collection Friday. Love the one collection a day jobs
Hmmnn. Have you seen any other Scanny toplines pulling your trailers mate?

Only our own, we have a low ride topline 59 plate, and 13 plate topline but they have branded trailers, then my 11 plate and the 61 plate both pulling plain white trailers, mine is the only one with top bling lights though and a bloody good looking driver
Ah, it was a branded trailer on the back, so must have been one of your esteemed colleagues.
Can’t comment on your looks pal as my gaydar is known to be defective.

Just got back from Helfords, its seems i’m asking a question no one has ever asked before.
Helpful people mind, they rang Garmin technical.
Nope, the digi traffic has to have a route programmed to work, it’s not like the older traffic where you could search in ever expanding radii without having any destination entered, so thats Garmin digital traffic out the loop.
TT is apparently the same.
Looks like i may yet be forced to follow Switchlogic’s and Conor’s suggestions, go smart phone.
Bugger.
Halfrauds told you wrong about TT Live…tap thr traffic bar on the right, tap ‘show map’ & zoom +/-
Whoa, stop the bus.
Thats put a whole new face on things, thankyou.
Would you be able to zoom in to make things clearer then tap on any one of those icons to bring up info, and all that without a destinaton being entered?
What model TT is this please Actrosman, or what is the traffic system called…if there’s more than one ‘‘traffic’’ as there is with Garmin…nah ignore this question you’ve already mentioned its ‘live traffic’, but the above re highlighting an icon still stands.
Do yer know what, this has highlighted just how difficult it is to find good pertinent info out there, and you end up relying on good old hairy arsed lorry drivers who actually use the bloody things what they can do, but this applies to so many things now where it’s not what the sales team tell you, it’s what they fail to mention that’s often the important stuff, bit like politicians and referendums/elections.
