Traffic Offence Report

Any of you guys got any experience of receiving a Traffic Offence Report (not Fixed Penalty Notice)?

I got one on the 12 March 2015 for not wearing a seat belt and up to now have not received any further correspondence regarding it. Does anyone know how long it takes for these things to be processed?
Cheers

Not sure how long but think this may just be an alternative to a fixed penalty and allows them to offer a driver edjcational course.

Anything in the smallprint on it ?

Omg no seatbelt, reckon you may get away with a mild stoning followed by a lite ■■■■■■■.

You can be fined up to £500 if you don’t wear a seat belt when you’re supposed to

could be an expensive one

Well I could be halfway there. I had a little win online doing the Irish lotto that week of £301 but I daren’t spend it until I’ve heard something.

By the way the offence was 12 March not 12 April.

This is Nottinghamshire police response as to what a TOR is

A TOR is a method of reporting an offender for traffic offences. Some forces are using them for ALL offences Inc Seatbelt, Speeding, No licence etc, whereas some are only using them for what was the old endorsable offences, Speedo g, mobile phone, dangerous condition, but it depends on each force.

Normally you should of heard something within 3 weeks from date of issue.

If the is a contact name/number on the rear give them a bell. It is usually the Central Ticket Office for the force concerned who deal with them so start there.

Some forces are running a online education course for seatbelt tickets but I don’t know which in particular.

If you ignore it, yes some will tell you it will go away, however it might not and it ends up as a court summons and even pleading guilty by post will double the fine as its £100 or more, plus court costs plus victim surcharge.

No seat belt :unamused: That’s been law for…how long now

Just accept the law (whether you agree or disagree - you can’t change it) it saves you stress, time and money in the long run!

I’m no goody 1 boot but everyone knows when they are pushing their luck, you won’t get away with it forever - sods law and all that  now that’s another law that upsets people

Thanks Traffic Rat. There’s no number and the guy that stopped me told me not to do anything until I received further correspondence. It also states the same on the back of the report. So its been 7 weeks now. They must be running a bit behind.

Dri-Diddley yep there’s no complaints from me

Got done for this hugely criminal act coupla years ago, opted for online course, cost 36 quid IIRC, did it one evening took about an hour or so, nil points.

Hampshire plod in a camera van - learnt me lesson, even though the belt was always trying to saw its way through my neck all the time.

I got my 10 year old son to do mine. Its online and took him about 15 minutes… and he earned £2 pocket money, so it cost me £38.

For the record, I WAS wearing my seatbelt in the car, I had a black jumper on (Tinted rear windows too) and they didn’t spot my seatbelt being on. It also turned out to be a “Fishing Trip”, they had DVSA there checking tyres and HMRC dipping tanks. It was a plain clothed officer using a mk1 eyeball from the other side of the road, its obvious he wouldn’t really be able to tell either way but he jumped to a conclusion and it was the wrong one.

It would have cost me a LOT more than £38, even if I was found not guilty at court. That is what is wrong with these “Bribes”/“Courses”. The police get a kickback from each one they sell and this incentivises them to pick out a lot more of the “Easy” offences to bump up contributions to the policemans ball. If they were to issue a COFP/Court summons then the police force gets nothing, the fines go to central government. But then you would have to think seriously about it, because even fighting it and winning, you still lose your days wage, legal costs, travel costs etc.
