Traffic lights

Noticed while coming out of Widnes that some traffic lights (near the Tesco extra) have a round camera on top of them pointing towards oncoming traffic. Is this camera an ANPR type?? What’s its purpose??

Cctv? I know they were trying to clamp down on insurance fraud with people stopping dead on a green light, then when you run into the back of them they say it was a red light and its your word against them.

Never thought of that. So it could be CCTV then

Never noticed that, which set of lights is it on? The A577 going towards or from the direction of the bridge?

PIR detector for when the lights are on trip?

Come out of Tesco RDC under bridge, next to stobarts. Over next island, left at next and then under low bridge. You come to another set of lights. Right there, that takes u along the stretch I’m talking about… Towards motorway

Seen similar before, there are a few sets of lights in York which uses them to control the speed of traffic, approach under 30 they will stay on green, but go over the limit and they will change to red before you get to them, no matter how fast your going!
