traffic light cameras

i went through one in Sheffield October 15th (as i posted about),not heard anything yet.
anyone driving through Fosse Park area off J.21 M1 Leicester should be very wary of those cameras as dozens of people are caught there according to the local paper, and i’ve seen lots of £800 fines.

The photographic evidence, which you are entitled to see

Once you have rejected the Fixed Penalty, Pleaded Not Guilty and ask for your evidence pack for your defence. At this point, you lose the early plea discount and any offers of a discounted bribe.

You are not “Entitled” to any evidence, pictures or documents before this point but sometimes the SCP’s will send them out.

Same applies to speeding tickets.

Regarding the 1 flash/2 flash, it depends on the type of camera used, only 1 flash is needed from the newer Monitron cameras as they have a Piezo loop in the road which corroborates the speed of the vehicle.

I know it sounds stupid, but the law has been broken if “Any part of the vehicle passes the stop line during a red light phase”. If they didn’t agree at the Ticket Office, then it would be a date with a Magistrate and see if they agree with you (Which is a gamble).

As others I have had the trailer flashed after getting caught out by someone’s unplanned manoeuvre in front

There is also the thought that if the photo is taken before your rear plate shows it probably wont see the one on your tractor unit either. Add to that a plain trailer and you would be hard to identify

I took a hit n miss pop at some traffic lights on Christmas Eve on the East Lancs. I was doing 40 (tops) in a 50mph zone, I had slowed down for the lights as I’d noticed they had been on green for a while. The second I put my foot down, they changed, and I’m pretty sure I will have gone through just as they hit red!

Anyway, I was wondering, if I have been flashed(didn’t see a flash) do you get the option of a speed awareness course for running red lights, or is that option reserved for speeding only?

I was driving a tanker, slamming the brakes full on would have been potentially more dangerous than running the lights.

■■■■■■■ cameras!

theres 3 very small gizmos atop the lights , non much bigger than a satnav and all thin. is this what traffic light cameras look like?

No, red light cameras are completely separate from the traffic signals, positioned before the stop line and are usually bright yellow.

For example, here is a fairly old style one at a level crossing.

Different makes vary in appearance, here is a another style in Glasgow: google.co.uk/maps/@55.87672 … sSkg5Q!2e0

Things mounted on top of the traffic signals will usually be detectors for the signals or sometimes other traffic monitoring equipment.

As with all cameras, you are notified via sign long before you meet them. Also its not a legal requirement to make red light cameras visible to motorists.

My understanding of traffic light cameras is that you’ll only get done if your vehicle crossed the white line after the lights have actually gone red. You’ll normally get away with nipping through on amber whilst they are in the process of changing.

Does anybody know if some kind of awareness course is offered rather than having to take the points?

Not wishing to have a pop here but what precisely could they offer on a course? There are three colours available, surely a day in a classroom isn’t required for you to be able to differentiate between them?

my examiner asked me,what sequence are the traffic lights…red, amber, green…what comes after green then?..I dunno, ive driven off by then…stupid question or what… :frowning:

A day wouldn’t be enough for some of the cabbages.

Best make it a week long residential.

Well, since dieseldog thinks the signals go from red to amber there’s not much helping some!

correct if its just a red light camera it doesent have to be visible hence the cameras on the A635 Ashton Old Road at the junction with Audenshaw road are painted black and set back in the trees .yet travel two miles down the road and turn into pottery lane (inner ring road ) and the traffic and speed cameras at the cross roads by the Etihad stadium are bright yellow . also there will be markings on the road for the speed cameras

The same inane drivel I’d imagine they teach/attempt to educate you on with a speed awareness course.

I was unlucky with the traffic lights, I wasn’t trying to race the change - it was just one of them things.

If sitting what I would imagine to be a patronising course avoids me getting 3 points, then so be it.
