Its important for HGV Drivers to know the Law when it
comes to reporting an accident:
Stop at the scene of an accident, exchange details if possible or if no one is around the report it to the police within 24 hours. Simples.
Or to the local authority or railway authority if a bridge is hit, giving details of bridge number/location damaged caused.

My big fear - all approaches to bridges below 16’06" should have a laser-beam
to trigger BIG RED STOP LIGHTS on the bridge if the vehicle is overheight.

there’s one down here that does that. people still hit it on a regular basis.
learnt this day and age, stop and just phone police and stay there till police say all good to leave too many dodgy people out there. my girlfriend just had something happen when car jumped on roundabout she was going around and went into her. all details exchanged and woman excepted was her fault passed to insurance company and she denied was her fault. Still on going.

9 times out of 10, the police will not come unless there are injuries,-or- the road is blocked,-or- or the drivers are disputing who’s at fault.
Providing each party exchanges details etc, they leave it to the insurance companies to sort it out.
The advice is, take photo’s, of everything! position of vehicles, views of the road, damage to vehicles, person driving, registration number of vehicle. note the reg of the witness vehicles as well as their names & contact details. Don’t take the name that the other driver gives you as being correct unless they can back it up with some form of identification.
Note drivers name & address (get prove) contact phone numbers, home & mobile if possible, how many people in the vehicle (scam is 1 person when the accident occurs, but 5 claim for whiplash injury to your insurance) driving licence number if they have it, insurance details, broker/company, policy/certificate number.
If there is no-one injured, swap details etc as safely as you can, then if clear the road/ carriageway.
