I belong to a union & i work for myself with my own business i also employ 1 other person.I use to work on Shell as a tanker driver when ill health led me to 14 months off work.When i was fit & got my licence back Shell had sold the business to G.B Oils who then tried to finish me with 1 weeks pay.They did not know i was in the union as i paid it from my own bank account & they were going to slaughter me. The area manager even left a message on my phone about a meeting i was to attend & stated it is about your dissmisal!When i turned up with me region union rep they where in right flap! it was brilliant & to cut a long story short i got everything i was entitled to,so in my eyes they are worth every penny.As it has been said before when people say the union is rubbish they must rember that they are the union & it is only as strong as the members & try to look at both sides of any dispute because in my opinion there are good & bad employers as well as good/bad epmployees.P.s got a dispute with myself at the moment might have to get the union in!
Can’t stand the term ‘working man’.
Anybody who goes to work is a working man or woman.
Because someone wears a suit, does that not mean they are a working man.
