Anyone do trade plate vehicle deliveries I am looking for some advice on LGV work ?
Not the best route into lgv work…if you look on the site there are several threads about plating.
There have been some horror stories about Uniloads.Find out about your pay rates before you start driving.
I am going to do some LGV vehicle deliveries from Scotland down south and would be looking to get information on getting a vehicle to bring back up north.
Are you freelance with your own plates, insurance etc or are you plating for a company?
If a company, they will usually find you something if they can or they will get you to hitch
If not, try auctions, dealerships etc or just look on the interweb for info.
Make sure you’re paid by the day/salaried whilst away from home, rather than just when a tacho records driving time.
5 days away for 9 hours paid isn’t uncommon. Even at £20 per hour this is going to be a bum deal.
Insist on “Salaried only”, or “paid by the day”. Nothing else will do.

A truly excellent route into LGV driving for the rookie driver. Get paid to gain experience of driving just about every make, gearbox type, body style and axle layout you can think of. After a month or 2 of not bending anything or cooking engines you’ll get to drive brand new state of the art £100+k tractor units. It can be a very enjoyable job, especially in Summer.
True there are numerous threads here discussing the subject. Using the search facility and entering Loonyloads, sorry, “Uniloads” should bring up plenty - enough to put you off the idea for ever.
Best pay it ain’t, but you won’t get more variety of experience anywhere.
After a year doing that, you’ll be able to go into any job and know how to operate almost any vehicle/gearbox thrown at you. I speak from experience.
