Don’t get me wrong, I love steam engines but Christ do they annoy me when driven on main roads! 10mph max for a roller and not much more for a traction engine (have seen a steam lorry do nearly 50).
Why do some have to have a sign on the rear saying “you are following a 1910 (whatever)”. I couldn’t give a toss to be honest just get on the back of an old low loader and stop holding everyone up. I prefer the ones that run on rails anyway
A trucknet first
Someone slower than Muckaway on a single carriageway
Not exactly an everyday problem I would say.
I thought we had seen every single moan on here. I was wrong.
In 27 years of driving trucks I don’t need all my fingers to count how many times I have been slightly delayed by a traction engine.
Why does it bother you, do they pull in too quickly as they overtake you?

keep away from norwich then on the last weekend of may then as theres a big steam rally there…if you happen to follow a 8 ton diesel roller with caravan in tow it could be me(but then mine only goes 8mph)

I assume you are talking about Strumpshaw? Bane of my life that is, I only live 3 miles from it.
Trying to get in/out is a roight mare
At least wait until lunchtime on Friday please, I’ll be sailing on the Broads by then.
There seems to be a few getting about around here all of a sudden yet I’m not aware of any shows until Bloxham in June. I thought I hadn’t seen any complaints about 'em on here and seeing a couple in the last week (from a distance behind) thought I’d post about it. Something similar was reported 3 or 4 years ago on local radio and the complainant got shouted out by the “protecting our heritage etc” “doing it for charity” blah blah…Do they pay road tax or are they exempt like normal tractors?
For god’s sake man who cares if they pay road tax? Just sit behind and marvel at these wonderful machines!
I would but I’m too far back! Someone round the corner has a steam roller, that’s good fun when it goes past as we’re on a bend/hill on the “main” road through a housing estate. a bit of rain on the road keeps the driver busy as he rounds the bend with a bus coming that’s for sure
I do enjoy looking at them at shows; Fordson Majors and so forth barely get a passing glance though…
