Towergate Insurance - a shower of [zb]

Just a heads up warning, they’re tighter than Simon Cowells facelift.

Been with this bunch for a least five years, payed my annual premium of £3k + and in all that time only ever made one claim for £800 for some numpty that tried to overtake me, who then changed his mind and didn’t come out of it very well. They settled that against my wishes
I’ve even recommended them on here and know theres others with them on these forums.

Early June last year I took a truck off the road and informed them by phone I was cancelling the policy, no problem they said, the decision was noted and policy and direct debit were cancelled and I was told a small rebate would be due. Three weeks later I did a SORN as the tax ran out at the end of the month.

Well to my surprise they sent me a present at Christmas, not a rebate  , but a demand of £1200 for unpaid premiums :open_mouth: I was on the phone to them straight away and burnt some ears, explained their mistake which they conceded to, and backed it up with a faxed copy of the SORN notice to confirm the vehicle had been off the road.

Fast forward to March, they decided they still want me to pay for the three weeks up to when the SORN came into effect, the grand total of £170 :unamused: . I bashed out a letter telling them I didn’t think so as the matter had already been sorted before christmas, and therefore to politely go and do one.

There followed another demand in April which I duly binned and ignored, my feeling being that if they’ve a leg to stand on then they would take it to court.
They didn’t take it to court, instead they passed it over to a debt collection agency going by the name of Credit Resource Solutions, since May CRS have been calling, texting and writing threatening letters on behalf of Towergate. Their ploy is to call then hang up, or leave automated voice mails or send texts asking me to call them to pay the demand so as to avoid their agents calling round :unamused:
I’ve not paid it yet, and their agents haven’t called round yet, and my dog is yet to have his day :grimacing:

It goes to show that 5 years and £15k of easy income for Towergate from me doesn’t go towards showing any goodwill, and they’re prepared to employ low life scum DCA’s rather than fight their corner in court, so ■■■■ them. I’ll not be going back to them if the truck goes back on the road, all for them wanting £170 :unamused:

Send the collections letter stating your intentions of wanting to goto court if they wish to pursue it and any further contact will be deemed as harassment and keep records of all contact. Send a letter don’t do it over the phone. don’t know if it works or not tell them you charge a hourly rate to answer the phone or read letters and by sending you more after your letter there agreeing to pay the fees

Towergate are associated with a well-known aggregate company aren’t they? Birds of a feather and all that…

Don’t let the ■■■■■■■■ win! Good luck!

Once a debt has been passed on to a third party you have no legal obligation to pay them. Your insurer will have sold your debt to the collection agency for a nominal sum and the agency will threaten and harass you until you either pay them or they sell the debt on to another agency. The best thing to do is totally ignore them and they will go away.

I hope you get it sorted soon Joe.
I think it’s a case of another company got to big and lost sight of the good customers that allowed then to get that way.
Seems there’s a lot of other companies gone the same way.

They don’t really worry me as I’ve had plenty of experience with the likes of CP parking, its just they take it to a new level. I’m hoping they take it to court, but I don’t think they will despite all their chest beating :frowning:
They’ve only got so many numbers they can ring me from, I’ve got them all saved now so whenever they ring I press the answer button and slip the phone back into my back pocket where they can talk to my arse, its their phone bill :grimacing:
I’ll keep you all posted as a bit of adverse publicity for the [zb]s won’t go amiss :stuck_out_tongue: , so remember folks its Towergate Insurance, they set up their HGV insurance division on the back of the RHA, another waste of space as far as your average ownerdriver and small haulier is concerned

Kin sons of dogs… :smiling_imp:

They are associated with Tarmac and they are as bad as each other.

Well well the power of the tinternet  We were contacted last week by a concerned Managing Director from Towergate Insurance. Apparently someone had drawn his attention to our case, and prior to him making contact he assured my wife that the individuals concerned over the matter had been duly castigated and the demands for the £170 were to cease forthwith. My case will now be used for staff training as an example of ‘‘how not to treat the customer’’, so all respect due to Mr Larry Smith from Towergate :grimacing:

Sounds good fella

The power of the website LinkedIn.

It’s good that they have sorted it but a shame that they needed the bad publicity on the internet before they did anything about it. Hopefully they truly have used the problem to learn what not to do in future.

Long story short,

I went with them last year, as my no claims bonus of 5 years was suspended whilst a claim i was involved in was being settled, my no claims was reinstated, i cancelled my policy, which had been paid in full, and awaited for the adjustment on my premium to be refunded back to me.

Suprise, i get a letter today saying that i am owed nothing :smiling_imp: surely this cant be correct, my premium was over £3000 without NCB, and i am now paying £2000 with staveley head with NCB reinstated, a phone call will be made first thing in the morning!!
