Tower Hill Transport

My late father drove for Tower Hill in the late 50s when they had offices on Hedon Road and a yard in Hull.

I can remember the old Bedford-Scammell OSS tractor unit and trailer being way overloaded with timber off Hull Docks.

We moved over to Oldham in 1963 when my father set up a change over for Bramleys of Hull with the night man bringing a loaded trailer over and my father would tip and reload it around the Manchester area ready for the following nights change over which took place on the Red Loin Public house car park on the A62 at Austerlands.
Those were the days when it was a three and a half hour drive to Hull from Oldham via all the A roads before the M62.
Happy Days.

Hello Moomooland, I would think the night man did well to do Oldham to Hull in three and a half hours in pre-motorway days. Anyway do you have any idea where the cafe is ( or should I say was ) in the photo ? Regards Haddy, Gt. Yarmouth.

Hi Paul many thanks for your input mate and the photos are spot on mate. Whatever did we do without the motorway.? I wonder. Happy days indeed and a cafe when you wanted one . I hope you guys keep sending in the Tower Hill photos were getting a few on here now. Also any stories that you may have heard or ones you have to tell about them.
