Tow Truck in Norway

Anybody else confused? Which tow truck went over, the red one or the green one?

very strange.
norway isn’t highly populated, but someone just happens to have a camera on an almost deserted snow covered road on the side of a mountain.

It was the police who filmed it.

thanks, you stated the obvious, which i didn’t see. cheers

Don’t know how much interest is left but.

how long before someone says he is a fanboy cause he has spotlights on his ambulance :unamused:

The foreign (LT) driver only broke a leg apparently. Looks like the Volvo ‘only’ rolled two or three times while the Scania had quite a tumble.

The recovery driver managed to get out in time only because he wasn’t wearing a seat belt - most Norwegian drivers never do when they’re driving on icy roads in the mountains! Pretensioner = bumpy ride down the fjord…

Still like to know how the tow truck changes colour from red to green?

It doesn’t, the video is corrupted at one point, that’s all. :unamused: :unamused:

Probably some corrupted data, it stays the same colour in this clip

Hi all.As the legal requirement is for the tow trucks to be in hi-vis red i don’t understand. Both the main towing\rescue companies,Falk and Viking are vivid red with yellow stripes. The only thing i can think of is that '‘fast Eddy’'has got into the towing business,or the Norwegian trolls have been having a bit of fun.Mike

A local women was going on a trip, heard on the radio a truck was stuck. Nothing new there, stupid eastern/southern European drivers with 2axle trucks and hard summer tires get stuck all the time there. So she decided to make a video.
Norwegians are quite tired of 2 axle trucks and discussion about banning them in the winter. There are even some how want to ban all other than Swedish and Finnish trucks in the winter from coming to Norway

it makes you wonder why they attempted to tow it with a 4x2 then :unamused:

Hi d4c24a.If you look carefully at other pics you will see that it is a 6 wheel rigid.Always they use 6 or 8 wheel rigids.Anything else is useless. Most of the newer trucks are double drive with studded tyres. As you see if you look the first drive axle is chained up.If it was a bogie lift they shorten the angle of lift of the cable from the crane, lift the bogie and dump more weght onto the drive. The trucks we use here in Gällivare are a mix of 6 and 8 wheelers. All have studded tyres all round plus chains for the drive and steering axles if and when necc.Mike

Because of the offset tow hitch point on the Volvo, the tow truck is not getting a straight pull. So when the tow truck driver tucked into his side of the road ready to take the bend, he seems to of inadvertanly pulled the Volvo into the barrier :open_mouth: . When the Volvo driver realised what was happening he’s stood on the brakes and made it worse… Both very very lucky

What I don’t understand is why the recovery truck is attempting to tow it at all. When he pulled his front wheels will have lifted and the volvos will have lifted as well from the winch wire. So neither will have been able to steer properly.

I’m no expert as I am just an ordinary steering wheel attendant, but wouldn’t it have been a lot safer (given the conditions) if the tow truck had just winched it step by step with its rear support leg thingys dug into the snow/ice?

Hi all.It doesn’t work like that.If it’s a double drive you just put enough tension on the cable to let the drive dig in a bit more, the same applies if you have a bogie lift and lift it.These trucks weigh quite heavy so sit well on the road.
The only thing which surprises me is that the LT truck is not chained up.It has obviously been stuck for a while[tow trucks do not appear by magic]Someone has phoned him and he had to come from Mosjoen or even Bjerka so why wasn’t he made to chain up.This would have given him the grip to ‘‘maybe’’ not slip over the edge.I think there will be quite a big debate about this accident within the Norwegian authorities. :open_mouth:
Here it’s a warm min5c,just right for skiing or snowscooter.Mike

I think that’s a good explanation Joe.
