There for ever posting pics in our local rag of cars / vans / Lorry’s they’ve pulled over at gonerby services , they do seem to enjoy it ,

They need to introduce bans for drivers watching videos whilst driving down the road. It’s reaching epidemic proportions on nights, especially amongst the younger drivers. They’re completely unaware of what’s going on, veering in and out of lane and then they ■■■■ themselves when you bang on the horn as they’re about to drift into the side of you because they had no idea you were there even though your cabs are side by side.

I am not without all sin, but, traffic fines are a voluntary tax.
Avoid doing wrong and pay none.

For those that work out the odds on getting caught, against the gain in income vs loss in fines, it should be a deterrent.
Those who inadvertently make an error will feel bad. I know that.
But those who see playing fast’n’loose with the law as a business opportunity might think twice.

Agreed
If you cant drive from a to b without needing to watch tv, you’re in the wrong job / shouldn’t be on the road.
I’ll also add, people that can’t get out of the outer lanes when the inside lane(s) are empty.

I see a lot of people mainly younger driving with big massive bose headphones on .
They should be fined as how can you concentrate with them stuck over your ears blasting music at you.
What’s wrong with using your radio Bluetooth instead.
Thing is they know they can get away with it as not enough police around . Just cameras everywhere which as far as I’m aware can’t detect what’s happing inside the car

(Ignoring devices for those who are hard of hearing etc of course)

So far as I know, it is not illegal to wear headphones. earbuds etc whilst driving.
But maybe if they prevent the driver hearing sirens etc of emergency vehicles, a different offence? Due care and attention? is being made?
If you cannot hear what is going on around you, then you are not paying attention it seems to me.

I have seen runners, cyclists etc wearing them, and think they are crazy. They are impairing their own awareness of their surroundings.

I do have a set of bone conduction headphones that I use when out and about. I can listen to whatever I want, without annoying others, and with my ears fully open can also hear all the sounds around me.
I really think they are a great idea.

I normally start 1 am ish and I don’t seem to encounter drivers swerving all over the roads , watching tv,s I’ve no idea , not noticed it but then I don’t really look at other drivers cabs , I’m normally on m1 , m6 , m25 , more south roads than north , highest I’ve been of late was Newcastle where I was taken aback to be honest how they all looked the same , bald , fat with gravy stained Newcastle shirts on ha ha
I’d suggest if vosa want to make it safer for us , they should start at my yard where the 10 mile limit is totally ignored , as is zebra crossings & my pet hate driving behind you when your reversing ( I’ve shouted at the thick idiots more than once ) ,

However, the update means that non-UK registered vehicles receive no exemptions, with foreign drivers treated as agents for their operators and facing identical sanctions.

They were getting let off plenty before?!

I remember saying on this board years ago that wearing headphone/earbuds whilst driving should be illegal because you cannot be fully aware of what’s going on around you and was told that it was OK because deaf people are allowed to drive, the thing is though that deaf people don’t have a self inflicted disability that affects their ability to drive safely and competently.

I still think it should be illegal to drive whilst wearing anything over your ears that prevents you from hearing what’s going on around you :+1:

I was driving down the motorway last night and about to overtake this white van, when he’s starting to wander about in his lane. Sure enough, he was playing with his phone mounted on the windscreen at his right hand. Gave him 2 short blasts of the horn, more to say ‘Can you please not do that while I’m overtaking you?’. He got the point.
