The legendary diver and scuba diving pioneer,by the name of Jaques Cousteau was born in the village of Saint Andre de Cubzac,of which WAS the village where the “Cabbage patch” used to be,or to new guys and gals on TN,the BP garage and hotel/restaurant,or the official boxing venue for Murffits drivers arguing who was better, artic drivers or class 2 drivers,or drawbar,on Kellogs contracts.
Thats strange,i never saw Jaques going down on the ■■■■ waitresses that worked there.
There was the young lady offering services in the HGV park, some nurse,i was told, brunette, slim.
I hated the BP,noisy, never got good nights sleep, queue for showers at peak times, but showers were the best in France, enough room to splash around in,cleaned every ten minutes too.
Ironicaly, when i met Brit drivers, the normal banter and chat, there was always a driver that was in the special forces, and drove the middle east, navigating by old oil drums in the dessert,i was naive, and young,so was prey their stories of heroism fighting off the enemy, with an AK 47 under his bunk.
Toby`s back and in top form!!!
Thanks for the compliment,in the past i have had negative and rude comments from those keyboard warriors, that are too cowardly to say stuff to my face if met somewhere, you know the ones i mean.Is it true that the guy that invented Red Bull, first started making it about 60 years ago,and the chemical format in it was given to US troops fighting in Vietnam to keep them going all night.Shares in the company went up to 800%,if you invested in the firm in Austria.
Still havent got a (zb)ing clue what you`re on about Toby but I love reading your posts!!
Dont worry about the keyboard warriors, just do your stuff, most of us love it!!

The boat he used was laid up in La Rochelle for a while, it was sunk in Singapore and eventually towed to become a museum. John Denver and John Michel Jarre both wrote a song about the ex US ship Calypso.
Since a legal wrangle the ship is about ready to be relaunched after refurbishment.
Another useless fact of the day.

Agree with what bullitt said.Keep going,Toby.I didn’t know that about Jacques Cousteau, and only stopped in the cabbage patch 2 or 3 times. You could easily do 3,000k sat having a meal and a drink in there if you chose the wrong person to sit with(or is that if they chose you??)

someone forgot to mention the parking residents, the rats about the same size as your average tomcat.
More mileage was done in the cabbage patch restaurant on a saturday night than Norberts whole fleet could do in a week
Why even bother with the Cabbage Patch, another kilometer over the bridge is the Centre Routier or park on the docks by the U boat pens ,3 good Routier restaurants there.

That would be Stella, very nice woman, she had plenty of cups of tea in my cab over the years, as she serviced one of our other drivers she wouldn’t entertain my advances (not that I offered any) as it would be unethical in her eyes. As much as everyone slagged off the Cabbage patch it did have it’s good points and I had some memorable weekends there, including the weekend when Princess Di died, but in all the years I used it I never met Jacques Cousteau. However I did meet him in Belize, Central America when I was serving in the Army
What was the name of the village about 7 or 8 kms north of “The Patch” with the 7 day routiers where you parked in the bus parking and turning area? Over exposure to vin rouge, calvados & further south carajillos has taken it’s toll on my memory but that was always a fave of mine…so much so I don’t recall what it was called but R&G lads were regulars & many Dutchmen too.
I was under the impression that Jacques Cousteau was born in Castselsarrasin, just north of Toulouse, as there is a signpost as you enter stating this?
Sapper
Toby is right Jacques-Yves Cousteau was born in Saint-André de Cubzac on 11th June 1910 Died 25 June 1997
Krakatau, is West of Java.
In the olden days when we were discovering the world ships would take their own manure with them in the holds. Problem was methane gas would build up, someone goes in the hold with a naked flame then boom ship goes up in flames and sinks. So they started printing on the sides of the crates containing the manure s.h.i.t which stands for ship high in transit, therefore keeping the crates high up near the hold doors and allowing the gases to escape. And that is where the word comes from.
How’s that for a useless fact?

…and not a lot of people know that
Jacques Yves Cousteau was co-inventor of the self contained underwater breathing apparatus formerly known as an aqualung.
It was whilst using this “SCUBA” that Jacques encountered the largest proliferation of sharks of every kind anywhere in the world. He was diving off the Farasan islands in the Red Sea
I knew this bit

All the other stuff was new to me as well, so thats me learned something new today.
If I’ll be able to recall any of it when I want to is a totally seperate issue
.

Definately, drove a white Peugeot 205 for years, so I wonder if she was related to Jaques Coustau
Ross.
Just in case your interested or don’t know. The word scuba stands for
“Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus”
