Tosco Doncaster strike?

To all those striking-

what are you wanting to achieve?
And do you think you will get it?

Genuine question.

I think you are doing the right thing … you are not a scab, you are looking after the important things in your life your wife your kids your home etc, in my last full time job in the UK, the union I was in tried to stop Work Force modernisation to our role … we voted no … the Government brought it in anyway … and they were on 13k a year less then us just called them Officer 2’s so not the same did slightly different roles so you have two officers doing exactly the same job bu 13k a year difference in wages … and now Officer 1’s are getting sacked if they ■■■■ on the job … what did the union do nothing just bent over and took it dry … Unions are a waste of space just look after themselves!

you just work and look after your family screw what the other drivers on here say.

I agree, look after your family as the union sure wont

These are men who have families and homes to pay for, high pay or not, if you had the choice you would have worked there. Back them to the hilt. To insult them shows how ignorant you are.

No it’s not it’s reality & people need to grow up & deal with it(should have thought about it before taking the job & being such lazy bar stewards) I wouldn’t work for for tesco for any amount of money or if they held a gun to my head…!

In the case of pay and conditions,Don’t drag others down to your level (race to the bottom),instead try to raise yourself to their level.

I’ve been in the situation of striking to protect my livelihood and it worked. Sure the scabs crossed the lines in their green machines getting their paltry hourly rate for a couple of days but where did it get them?
£140 in the bank maybe and the joy of knowing they’ve shafted their fellow drivers, loss of ALL respect, not just the elfs but other co’s too.
Can they live with that? For £140?
By the way, I’m now on better pay and conditions than the scabs will ever be on because WE STUCK TOGETHER AND FOUGHT FOR OUR PAY AND CONDITIONS.
Lesson here? Stick together, shaft no-one and you’ll get what you need.

Stubborn comes to mind.

I fail to see how your strike has anything to do with Stobart drivers or the subbies going into Tesco, Tesco drivers have a beef with Tesco not Stobart surely, Tesco decided to sack you and Stobart have filled the gap and offered you a job, just because they can’t or won’t offer you the same rate Tesco offered is neither here nor there. At least you have been offered a job which is more than a lot of people have the chance of.

I was quote, “£7.50 p/h scum” last night, I nearly raised to the bait and corrected him £12.60 actually but decided against antagonising the situation.

As the guys on the picket line already consider a Stobart driver beneath them on £7.50p/h I fail to see how they can expect the Stobart drivers to rally to their cause to support their old lavish pay deal, after all Stobart drivers are scum after all in the eyes of the Tesco drivers regardless of whether they cross a picket line or not.

After what I saw and heard last night my sympathy only stretches so far.

I’m a green scum also. my neighbour was telling me how bad my pay was… Until I showed my payslips for last few weeks. Now he wants to come off his “best job in the world” on European fridges and do chipliner work.

Phantom Mark:
… Tesco drivers have a beef with Tesco not Stobart surely, …

I think the problem is that Stobart are basically doing Tesco’s dirty work so they are as bad as each other in most people’s eyes.

How’s the strike going so far? Any nearer to getting what you want? No? Didn’t think so.
As If stobart were gonna offer you the money Tesco paid you. That would cause an uproar with the other 2000 stobart drivers.
It’s better to have180 drivers striking than 2000 in anyone’s eyes.
Not only are you losing 2 days pay but also putting a black mark against your name.
I’m by no means saying that drivers should roll over and take the ■■■■. What I am saying is go about it in a more constructive way. Working to rule would, in my eyes, been a better option. Would have still made the same point and also saved losing pay. Still wouldn’t have got you anywhere though. This is happening I’m afraid, it’s not the first depot it’s hit and it certainly won’t be the last.
Are any of you taking the job offers with the ,as you say, ■■■■ green firm, or are you all leaving?

Exactly that! As Stobart did Tesco’s dirty work at Middleton, Middlewich and Milton Keynes. And no doubt will do again at Hinkley and Didcot, Weybridge and Thurrock.

But as a former Stobart driver, being called “Stobart SH**T” (by a Tesco Welham Green shunter) and “Green Slime” (by a Tesco driver at Hinckly RSU) with no provocation whatsoever I doubt I would want to lose pay to support the lads at Doncaster.

But it’s not a decision I have to make as I retired 18 months ago.

Good luck to those who remain, whatever colour your uniform

Kind regards,

PTT

Is it me, or am I seeing some blatant “Plant your knuckles here, right in the centre of my face” comments here? :smiling_imp:

£12.60ph won’t be any good to you if it ceases the moment the strike is done. Anyone leaving due to redundancy is going to have a hard time finding a job where anyone in the transport office remembers “what you did once upon a time” either!

Transport offices won’t ever give people jobs “because they were once a scab” - but for sure, they’ll use that excuse to turn you down for a job you see…

It’s just as well though. Human nature being what it is, if being a “scab” resulted in being given a plum job for life, then we’d ALL be crossing picket lines eh? - What a paradox!

Glad I’m not a scab

Tescos finest?? 200 sacked?? Sacked■■?

It’s my understanding that they were tuped across and then offered New contracts. So not sacked at all.

I would laugh but it’s not funny anymore.

ive just tipped there cant fault the guys 1 bit at the end of the day these are gunna lose there jobs,to a ■■■■■■ outfit called stobarts ,and really who wants to work for less than £9 ph i have the unite leaflet in front of me when stobarts took over they also lost there pension which aint right after 20 years of loyal service, all it comes down to is that tesco wanna make more profit

im more than happy with my wage at stobarts

Lol lol. Crappy stobarts, rubbish outfit called stobarts, stobarts this, stobarts that. Get a life lol lol

i dont think they can LOOSE their pension…its just locked…i have 5 pensions myself from different ex employers.
I was TUPED in june fron DHL…well offered my old job with the new company for £11008 pa less or close the door on your way out.i closed the door.
the new company is not obliged to match pensions but the pension accrued from tesco cannot be LOST…just not added to.
after 12 months service TUPED drivers could join the stobart pension scheme i think?
i now work for stobart and im earning more than i did at DHL…just have to put a few more hours in to do so.
noone wants change…more than once i have worked somewhere and thought…yes…i could retire here…but alas change has been forced upon me…its sad when it happens…but welcome to the real world.
as for strike action?i worked in the motor industry in the 70s and 80s and had to budget carefully as we only worked about 9 months a year…the rest we were on stike.
i can honestly say the best we ever did was break even…almost always lost money and never really gained a thing.
when we had a union meeting and the steward said …“right lads…this is a matter of principal” we knew then that we were on a loser.
that said…back in those days there were no scabs…1 out…all out!!..you had to be a paid up member of the union BEFORE you could get a job application form then…when we walked out we would put 50 plus pickets on the gates 24/7…well 24/5 because in those days people only worked monday to friday…
and if other plants in the group went out bus loads of lads from other factories would turn out in support too…flying pickets.
good old maggie thatcher destroyed the unions and the working man has been shafted ever since and i cant see a time when that will change?
best of luck in your efforts but i think they are doomed to failure.
