A close friend of mine has been looking for driving jobs though (and no, I’m not “asking for a friend” ) he’s a highly experienced class 2 driver, some experience of Class 1, ADR qualified, lots of experience as an HGV instructor, and a qualified TM to boot. He couldn’t get a sniff of the Class 1 jobs he was after because of the 2YE issue. Consequently he’s re-taken an unsatisfactory job at a place he previously worked at because the jobs market isn’t quite as has been described in the press.If anyone knows of a firm around the Tyneside area that needs very professional guy, PM me what you’ve got and I’ll pass it on to him.
All I can say is that we’ve got a young agency driver at our place who was doing class 2 work but who passed his Class 1 last week (Thursday 16th) and my lot have had him out in an artic two days this week (Class 2 the other days) and he’s on artic work all next week. Not your area but shows it can be done.

Probably because in too many cases the job involves too much of anything but ‘driving a lorry’ and who wants to work in an industry which the government’s sated aim is to remove from the roads and curtail wherever possible.

Won’t do anything at all. There’s a shortage of around 100,000 drivers, 15,000 eu drivers left the UK in the last year and virtually all were legally entitled to remain. They didn’t leave because of Brexit.
Government are running round like headless chickens desperately trying to look like they are doing something.

Unless there is a change in legislation they won’t be allowed to drive HGVs without going through the full testing process, which in the case of Africans/ Asians etc will start with having to take a car test.

It’s possible that the two respective types of job being referred to aren’t comparing like with like.
It’s also possible that it could be class 2 quality, local multi drop ?, type work but with an artic in which case no surprise the ‘experience’ issue suddenly disappears because few want it.
It’s also possible to find better quality class 2 work, than class 1, in that regard.
Class 1 isn’t an automatic guarantee of decent work.

you mean the greedy who left once the money was better back at there home ? why do you dream these people come here for any other reason that money ? they didnt care about coming here in there millions and the problems that would cause they came out of greed and i have seen many of our own people not getting work as the work would be given to the eu lot first as they were put up in the agencys rental places so they needed to cover those costs first before giving out work to home grown people, you really do want to inflict all that kind of crap onto your fellow brits out of some kind of vitural signaling clap trap

Only just skimmed through this thread, maybe this has been said…but just think if we were all members of a strong Union, the likes of what the train drivers benefit from on a regular basis.
Ok, I know to some if you I may as well ge talking a foreign language or using a dirty word (Union) to those of you who have swallowed the propaganda, but could you imagine if train drivers jobs were threatened, do you think their members would just sit back and let the foreigners come in.

Maybe they will exempt them because it’ will only be for 6 months,.
I think they will have to go within the commonwealth, so it looks like Africa with them being the poorest, if they can let every tom ■■■■ and harry from the commonwealth to live here then there would be no problem changing the rules for drivers licence
